Obituary

James Harry Eklund, 67, was born September 15, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away June 28, 2018 at home in Lake Forest, California.

Proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran for almost three years, receiving his Combat Infantry badge, National Defense Service medal and Sharpshooter M14.

James is survived by his wife Sunilla Alice Lewis Eklund; daughter Jessica Eklund; daughter Andrea Phillips and her husband Brad; grandsons Oliver and Obi Phillips; sisters Joan Sandstrom and Judy Tiffner.

His love for construction saw him working in this industry for most of his career.
He loved helping people- family, friends, strangers – whenever he could and always went the extra mile.
Spending time with family and friends was his priority, only rivaled by his passion for most sports, first the Minnesota Twins, then the LA Angels for baseball, along with attending the Ducks hockey games whenever he could.
‘The song has ended but the melody lingers on’
A Celebration of James life will be held at 2:00pm in the Clubhouse at the Eklund’s residential community, 24001 Muirlands Blvd., Lake Forest, CA 92630.

Dearest Sunilla, Jesse, Andrea and family,

There are no words. It doesn’t seem real. Jim’s light and warmth surrounded all who knew him. He had wit, wisdom, humor and a spirit like no other. You could always count on a big smile and a hug from him. Love went both ways. I will miss you so much, Jim. My love to all the family.

  5. Dear Sunilla, Andrea, Jessica, Brad,

I was taken aback by the sudden sickness and passing away of Jim. I had met him twice. The first time was when Sunilla and Jim visited me and my family at my house in Mumbai. The last time I saw him was at Indrali in January celebrating my and Sunilla’s cousin’s 90th birthday. He was enjoying himself. He looked well and told us about his experiences in Vietnam in the war.

May God give you the strength to bear the loss of your dearest one. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
