Obituary

James Harry Eklund, 67, was born September 15, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away June 28, 2018 at home in Lake Forest, California.

Proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran for almost three years, receiving his Combat Infantry badge, National Defense Service medal and Sharpshooter M14.

James is survived by his wife Sunilla Alice Lewis Eklund; daughter Jessica Eklund; daughter Andrea Phillips and her husband Brad; grandsons Oliver and Obi Phillips; sisters Joan Sandstrom and Judy Tiffner.

His love for construction saw him working in this industry for most of his career.
He loved helping people- family, friends, strangers – whenever he could and always went the extra mile.
Spending time with family and friends was his priority, only rivaled by his passion for most sports, first the Minnesota Twins, then the LA Angels for baseball, along with attending the Ducks hockey games whenever he could.
‘The song has ended but the melody lingers on’
A Celebration of James life will be held at 2:00pm in the Clubhouse at the Eklund’s residential community, 24001 Muirlands Blvd., Lake Forest, CA 92630.

  1. Dear Sunilla and Family, we are very saddened to hear about Jim’s passing. Our hearts go out to you and we are keeping you in our prayers. Just yesterday we passed by the house you used to live in here in Minnesota and reminisced about the fun times had with you and Jim. Wish we could be there to hug you in person. Much love, Annie and Steve

We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. Our heartfelt condolences to you all.at this difficult time.
We have fond memories of the happy times we spent together in Melbourne and Inverloch. He was a warm, caring and creative person with a hearty disposition, and was much loved by one and all.
Dear Sunilla and he made a wonderful couple.
    He will be missed greatly.
May his soul rest in peace.

  3. Jil was a special wonderful man. I’m so sorry for your loss and am always thinking of you.

  4. Dear Sunilla and family: Our hearts break for the loss you feel at Jim’s passing. Our prayers are following you as you adjust. Jim was a special cousin who we didn’t see enough of, but were always glad when he could make it back to Chicago for family gatherings. We pray God will give you comfort and encourage you.

  5. Remembering 1976 when my daughter was in the hospital. I left her looking like a rag doll, to get something to eat; when I came back Jim and Sunilla had her cavorting on the bed chasing bubbles! My angels.
