Obituary

James Harry Eklund, 67, was born September 15, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away June 28, 2018 at home in Lake Forest, California.

Proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran for almost three years, receiving his Combat Infantry badge, National Defense Service medal and Sharpshooter M14.

James is survived by his wife Sunilla Alice Lewis Eklund; daughter Jessica Eklund; daughter Andrea Phillips and her husband Brad; grandsons Oliver and Obi Phillips; sisters Joan Sandstrom and Judy Tiffner.

His love for construction saw him working in this industry for most of his career.
He loved helping people- family, friends, strangers – whenever he could and always went the extra mile.
Spending time with family and friends was his priority, only rivaled by his passion for most sports, first the Minnesota Twins, then the LA Angels for baseball, along with attending the Ducks hockey games whenever he could.

A Celebration of James life will be held at 2:00pm in the Clubhouse at the Eklund’s residential community, 24001 Muirlands Blvd., Lake Forest, CA 92630.

I am very sorry. It is unbearable to lose someone who has been
so much part of you, especially now.

I will Jim’s big warm smile that reached his eyes and his sense of fun.
I am grateful that I met him in December. I’ll cherish that memory of him.

Lots of love to you and your family.

  4. My wife Jeanne and I met Jim and Sunilla when they joined the stroke club.
So we only knew him for six years. He had a great since of humor and we enjoyed having laughs with him.
If I had known Jim as a child, I would have had a lifelong friend. But I still would not have liked hockey.
We love you and you are truly missed. Dan and Jeanne

  5. Sunilla. So very sad to hear of your loss. Our very sincere condolences to you and your family. We didn’t know Jim but knowing you is knowing Jim.
It was great you did your travels together early this year enabling Jim to visit your home of origin.
Your loss will always be a loss and hopefully the pain will lessen in time.
