Obituary

Timothy J. Deierling of Laguna Niguel, CA passed away on December 16, 2008, after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. He was with some of the people who were most meaningful to him, and he was an inspiration to all of us in his fight to survive. Many of us who could not be with him had the opportunity in the last days of his life, to thank him for his great friendship. Tim was born in Hawarden, Iowa on January 26, 1955 to Fred and Dianne Deierling. He spent most of his early years in Carroll, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1978. Tim’s hard work and dedication to JCPenney led to many significant assignments with the company culminating in appointment as District Manager for all JCPenney stores in the southern half of the Los Angeles area.

All of us who knew Tim well appreciated the timing, appropriateness, and dryness of his sense of humor. Tim was known for his love of the Beatles and their music, BMW’s, and good scotch. He was to the end a fierce fan of the Denver Bronco’s and loved to educate anyone that would listen about the dominance of Iowa Hawkeye wrestling.

Tim is survived by his wife Cathy Holt and her children Kimberlee and Greg; a brother Dave Linda of Ramsey, MN; a brother Bill Marlene of Buena Park, CA; one aunt, Irene Marstrelli of Stillwater, OH; two nieces, Amy Deierling of Minneapolis, MN and Rebecca Deierling of Mandan, ND; and so many great friends, neighbors, and business associates. He was taken from us far too early, but we all will hold his memory in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

    Timster,
You are greatly missed my friend. Many thanks to you for letting me get into the driver seat of your 318 and 525 Beemers and for your challenge to not be a wimp and find out what the top end speed of those cars really had in them during our Denver and Dallas days. WOW! And Yes, you are the true merchant prince and the king of the put down come backs! See you on the other side my friend. “RACER”

  3. Cathy,
Tim and I were on the District Staff together in Denver, Co. He became a good freind and travel companinon when we traveled to district meetings and stores. My wife Ardell and him really liked to kid each other. He was an asset to Penney’s and the people who worked with and around him. I can hear his voice as I type this. Know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Please pass this on to his brother. Tim, Troy Ray and I really enjoyed each other while working with Mr. Jaggers in Denver. Troy was in Operations and I was the District Special Events and Marketing Manager. Keep the faith and know he is not suffering any more but you will always cherish your time together. Tim, Ardell and I will miss you.

    Your friends,

    Don and Ardell Fisher

I wanted to send all my prayers to Tim’s and Cathy’s family. I had only known Tim for a short time but I can tell you that he had made a wonderful impact. I am very lucky to have been invited into his life and through him and Cathy share the love both have for each other and the love for their friends. I’m am blessed to be one of them. You’ll always be in our hearts.

  5. TIM: I AM SO SADDEN – WORDS ARE HARD TO SAY. IN ALL THE YEARS I’VE WORKED, YOU ARE BY FAR THE BEST BOSS, CO-WORKER AND FRIEND I’VE HAD. I LEARNED SO MUCH WORKING WITH YOU. I LAUGHED SO MUCH AT YOUR DRY SENSE OF HUMOR. I’VE TRIED TO KEEP UP WITH YOU AND THE MOVES YOU’VE MADE THROUGHOUT JCPENNEY SINCE YOU LEFT THE CORPORATE OFFICE. I’M SORRY THAT I HAD LOST TRACK OF YOU IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. I’VE THOUGHT OF YOU AND SPOKE OF YOU ON MANY OCCASSIONS. I JUST KNEW YOU WERE CLIMBING THE CORPORATE LADDER EVEN FURTHER THAN YOU ALREADY HAD…. YOU WERE SO RESPECTED AND LIKED BY SO MANY PEOPLE. YOU TRULY WERE ONE OF A KIND. I THOUGHT ABOUT BOGART OVER THE YEARS AND WONDERED HOW HE WAS DOING. I DID NOT KNOW YOU MARRIED. I AM SO HAPPY YOU DID, AND ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE WONDERFUL PERSON YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH AND SPENT YOUR LAST DAYS WITH. VEIWING YOUR CHILDHOOD PHOTOS TODAY PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE. YOU ALWAYS WERE SMILING, LAUGHING AND JOKING EVEN UNDER THE MOST STRESSFUL SITUATIONS AT WORK. I WILL MISS YOU TIM. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN IN HEAVEN! REST IN PEACE….
