Steven P. Werner

Steven “Steve” P. Werner, 49 of Mission Viejo, California, passed away at home with family by his side on Saturday, March 17, 2018.  He was born November 26, 1968 in Connersville, Indiana to Jerry and Donna (Borchelt) Werner.  He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gina, and children Sloane and Henry. He is predeceased by his son, baby Paul Thomas.

Steve was a graduate of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Economics.  He was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.  He loved road cycling, golf, sailing and car-racing.  Steve had a successful career in sales for several investment firms.   In 2004 he was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent many surgeries, chemotherapies and radiation treatments.  He never complained.  He never lost hope.  He never gave up.

I loved the time I spent with this guy, we had a lot of fun together in the short time we spent. I imagine others fell under the same sort of influence around Steve, he was never a difficult person. Lots of smiles, and a surreal sense of assurance, almost a confidence in something greater, that’s my memory of Steve, a great person. This world will miss his spirit, everyone who knew him should cast a sail, catch that wind.

Steve was so full of life always! Even throughout his prolonged illness, he was positive and beamed with gratitude. He loved his family and was determined to stay as long as possible. He is now at peace and his soul is forever with us. I am grateful to have known Steve. He will be missed.
