Obituary

Judy Belser nee Judith Ann Nichols
July 11, 1955- April 22, 2009

Judy passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital on April 22nd after a brief illness. On that day she went home to heaven and is now rejoicing with God and her beloved mother and other dear friends and family members that predeceased her.

The beloved daughter of Wharton A., DDS and Joyce E. Nichols, she was born at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the third of their four children. She spent her early years traveling with her military family to Germany, West Point in New York, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and finally to Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and shortly thereafter moved to Napa Valley, California to pursue her career. She rekindled a friendship from Hawaii with Vince Belser, who was attending San Francisco University, and he helped her to settle in to her new environment. This friendship soon blossomed into a life-long love affair; Judy and Vince were married on August 22, 1984. Vince then joined the Marine Corps and received officer training in Quantico, Virginia and flight training in Pensacola, Florida. Judy relished her role of military wife, as her mother had before her, and she and Vince loved all of their assignments, making many devoted friends along the way. Finally, they made their home in Mission Viejo for the past 25 years. They have one beautiful daughter, Callan Justine, who is 20 years old and attending college in Delray Beach, Florida.

Judy loved life, and lived her life to the fullest as a devout Christian. She was the most devoted wife and mother, daughter and sister, cousin and niece, and best friend to untold numbers of people. Our Judy never met a stranger. No matter where she was, she always made a positive impact on the peoples lives she touched. This beautiful soul will be so very missed.

Judy is survived by her husband Vince and her daughter Callan; her father, Wharton; brothers Ken and Greg Cindy and her sister Kathy Hank; her puppies Malibu and Snickers and favorite feline Sadie.

Memorial Service will be held at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 24772 Chrisanta Drive, Mission Viejo, 92691. There will be a celebration of Judy’s life and open house at the Belser residence immediately following. Vince and Callan wish to express their deepest gratitude to all of Judy’s wonderful family and dear friends for all their love and support. They also wish to acknowledge the caring and professional nursing staff of the SICU at Mission Hospital and Saddleback Hospital. Their kindness will always be remembered. Judy will always be remembered as a true instrument of the Lord’s peace.

Dear Vince and Callan, reading through Judy’s friends’ messages makes me realize how much I wish I could have had the opportunity to get to know Judy better. I always thought it was a shame that we didn’t live closer together because I know how much James would have loved to have spent time with Vince, and I would have been able to get to know Judy. When her mother passed away, Judy sent everyone a note describing how much she loved her and how close they were…now we know that a very special reunion is taking place. Vince and Callan, please know that we will be praying for God’s comfort for you both: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22 – With our love, James and Sherry Ayres

  3. Dear Callan and Vince,
I fell in love with your family when Callan was in my elementary class and Judy came every Friday, with coffee and sweets, to volunteer. She and you have remained my friends all these years. I will continue to be there for both of you. My heart breaks but I feel honored to have known her and been her friend.

  4. I met Judy through her pets, at my vet clinic, and have always enjoyed her positive outlook and her wonderful love for her fur-children, Malibu my boo-boo and Snickers. I’m stunned and saddened that she is gone, and she will be missed!!!!

1977 was the year I met Judy. I was living in Alaska and needed a reprieve from the cold February weather. My best friend, Mike Feltman Judy’s first cousin and I decided to fly to Oahu. It would be our first trip to the Islands. He asked if I would mind if we stayed a few days with his cousin Judy. Although I was only in Judy’s company for a few days, I must say, I never forgot her warm and beautiful smile. Judy embodied the “Aloha Spirit.” Several days ago I was visiting with dear friend and Judy’s cousin Bob Feltman. I had not seen Bob in a few years. We had a short but wonderful visit. During our 3 hour visit, I asked Bob about his cousin Judy, and reflected on his brother Mike’s and my visit with Judy 32 years ago. I know I am one of so very many who was touched by your Beloved. God bless you and comfort you.
