Obituary

William “Bill” Harold Kowalsky

Bill Kowalsky, age 69, passed away at Villa Valencia Nursing Home, Laguna Hills, CA on Saturday, August 18, 2012 as a result of complications from diabetes and renal failure.

Bill was born in Racine, WI on April 7, 1943 to the late Clarence and Etta (nee Holzschuh) Kowalsky. He attended Holy Name and St. Catherine Schools in Racine and went on to serve with the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Japan. Upon returning from his service he went on to earn a Masters Degree in Business Finance (with honors) at the UW Madison.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn E. Wells on Sept. 7, 1968 in Racine, WI.

Bill worked for Burroughs in Detroit, eventually relocating to southern Calif., where he lived 37 years. He worked for several companies but he became an Apple computer devotee and started his own consulting business (Macintosh Support Services) until his retirement. Some clients knew him as the Mac Guru.

As a genealogy buff, Bill spent many hours on his computer gathering data on his family tree for the Kowalsky Family History, which he would never finish. In his search he discovered several family members that he was previously unaware of and enjoyed corresponding and sharing family stories with them a great deal.

Bill was also a huge lover of music. Be it classical, opera, folk, jazz, blues, or rock, he enjoyed tapping his toes and singing along whenever possible. The music on his iPod was his last earthly pleasure in his final days among us.

Bill is survived by his loving and caring wife Carol (nee Wells) and one son, David of Laguna Hills, CA; his sister and genealogy partner, Kathy Solberg and nephew Michael Solberg of Racine, WI; two aunts, Millie Majchrowitz of Racine and Margaret Holzschuh of Colonial Heights, VA; sister-in-law Kathryn (Al) Pavia and niece Nicole Pavia of Minneapolis and brothers-in-law Art (Jean) Wells, nephew Nathan Wells of Racine and niece Holly Wells (Emiliano Benevides) of Spain and Tom (Charlotte) Wells of Racine; many cousins (especially John Valley of Lake Arrowhead, CA), nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to the U.S.O., the American Diabetes Association or the Obama Victory Fund 2012.

Bill was my Mac go-to-guy for so many years and I was sad when he could no longer show up and straighten out our lives.

Each and every time he appeared our office was blessed with his wit and sparkle. He is and always will be in our hearts. Rest in Peace Bill! Dean Gerrie

  4. I am truly sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I have know Bill for about 25 years as we met at one of the Mac Expo’s many years ago. He was a real friend and we had many laughs over the years. I know he was going thru difficult times the last few years as each year I tried to talk him into picking up his air tube and come to the expo to see all of his friends.

Like Bill, I am also an Ex CheeseHead from

I am going to upload some pictures of Bill from the last few expo’s that he attended. We will miss you Bill.

  5. We are very sad today to get the news of Bill’s passing.
How fortunate my family and I were to have known Bill. He was not only my MAC GUY, but he became a dear friend to us throughout the years. We enjoyed his visits to Costa Mesa and appreciated all he did for me and my business.
We stayed in touch even when we moved up North, because that is just who Bill was, a good friend.
His laugh and his smart sense of humor will be missed. He was a very special man and will always be in our thoughts. We wish Carol and David peace and may God bless you.
