Obituary

William “Bill” Harold Kowalsky

Bill Kowalsky, age 69, passed away at Villa Valencia Nursing Home, Laguna Hills, CA on Saturday, August 18, 2012 as a result of complications from diabetes and renal failure.

Bill was born in Racine, WI on April 7, 1943 to the late Clarence and Etta (nee Holzschuh) Kowalsky. He attended Holy Name and St. Catherine Schools in Racine and went on to serve with the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Japan. Upon returning from his service he went on to earn a Masters Degree in Business Finance (with honors) at the UW Madison.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn E. Wells on Sept. 7, 1968 in Racine, WI.

Bill worked for Burroughs in Detroit, eventually relocating to southern Calif., where he lived 37 years. He worked for several companies but he became an Apple computer devotee and started his own consulting business (Macintosh Support Services) until his retirement. Some clients knew him as the Mac Guru.

As a genealogy buff, Bill spent many hours on his computer gathering data on his family tree for the Kowalsky Family History, which he would never finish. In his search he discovered several family members that he was previously unaware of and enjoyed corresponding and sharing family stories with them a great deal.

Bill was also a huge lover of music. Be it classical, opera, folk, jazz, blues, or rock, he enjoyed tapping his toes and singing along whenever possible. The music on his iPod was his last earthly pleasure in his final days among us.

Bill is survived by his loving and caring wife Carol (nee Wells) and one son, David of Laguna Hills, CA; his sister and genealogy partner, Kathy Solberg and nephew Michael Solberg of Racine, WI; two aunts, Millie Majchrowitz of Racine and Margaret Holzschuh of Colonial Heights, VA; sister-in-law Kathryn (Al) Pavia and niece Nicole Pavia of Minneapolis and brothers-in-law Art (Jean) Wells, nephew Nathan Wells of Racine and niece Holly Wells (Emiliano Benevides) of Spain and Tom (Charlotte) Wells of Racine; many cousins (especially John Valley of Lake Arrowhead, CA), nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to the U.S.O., the American Diabetes Association or the Obama Victory Fund 2012.

  1. Bill helped me with my Mac systems for years. I appreciated his help, his good wit and sense of humor. I can hear his gruff voice and his laugh right now. I’m sorry. So sad especially for his family and close friends. He’s a brave soul. Thank you for creating this web page for him. ‘ Teresa Fritzler

So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing.

We spent many hours together while Bill patiently installed software, carried us though numerous Mac crises, and arrived with his magic kit of software disks and hard drives just waiting to fix the latest problem.

He undoubtedly kept our business from going under when I was under pressure by a host of clients who needed design and printing work done quickly.

But Bill was always congenial, patient when I was in a hurry, helpful to answer questions.

I can still remember his kind laugh and sometimes incredulous look when I might venture to kid him

His beloved Dixieland CD music still resides in my Itunes library, ready to entertain and remind me of the gentleman.

  4. I am very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was “my Mac guy” for many years, and always had a smile and was quick to laugh. My condolences to his family and friends – he will be missed.

I am very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was the one and only Mac consultant providing service over the many years I worked for Sage Software. I knew he could come in and fix any Mac issue and I hired him more than once to install entire systems … even at my home office. He was always cheerful and pleasant and I knew I could depend on him to do a thorough job and get everything working just right. He is in my thoughts and will definitely be remembered. Rest in peace Bill.
