Obituary

It is with great sadness we share with all that Wendell Simmons has left this life he loved so much on June 23rd, 2012 at 5:03am. We will all miss his charismatic and magnetic personality. He squeezed every ounce of fun, excitement and life out of every moment he lived. He was kind hearted to a fault and he always made you laugh. He could tell a story better than most and he was famous for being the one central to the punch line. He loved tennis and ping pong and was known to beat everyone, no matter age or ability. Wendell always had a song in his heart and he was the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gerry, his mother, Vivian, his brother Glenn (Judy), his two children, Mark (Mark) and Wendy (Bob), his three step-children, John (Michele), Kelley (Jennifer), and David, his six grandchildren, Brandy, Candice, Tosha, Ambra, Melissa and Lauren and one great-grandchild, Aiden.

He fought valiantly to beat this disease of cancer and showed us all that a good man never dies, but lives with us in our re-telling of fond memories. So, please join us this Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10am for a memorial service to celebrate his life and a graveside ceremony at the family plot in Green Hills Cemetery at 2:45pm to lay him in his final resting place.

We are better for having had the privilege of knowing Wendell!

  2. As my fellow Sagittarius, who celebrated his birthday the day after mine, Wendell and I enjoyed many things in common and perhaps the most memorable was our love for storytelling. Wendell kept us laughing and entertained with his best “most embarrassing moments” stories. There was no one more willing to poke fun at himself for a good laugh and I loved that about him! I will miss his playful and active “up for anything” spirit that had us playing ping pong, tennis, working out at the gym, riding bikes to the beach, playing Catch Phrase, eating desserts, going to the movies, visiting casinos and approaching every single day like a new adventure. Cancer is an enemy that doesn’t discriminate and to see it rob him of the life he so loved makes me sad and angry. The comfort I find is in knowing that he lived his life to the fullest while he could and is now enjoying chocolate chip and walnut cookies every day while watching down on Gerry and the family. I wish I could be there during this time and love you all! Love, Jen

  4. Wendell was such a sweet and kind gentleman. It was an honor to have met and get to know him and Gerry. He was the life of the class and a pleasure to know. I treasured his emails with their inspirational messages and wisdom. My prayers go out to Gerry and the rest of the family.

  5. The Lord saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around Wendell and whispered “Come with me”
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away, although we loved you dearly, we couldnt make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating, a beautiful smile to reat, God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best…
Youre in my thoughts and prayers, I’ve felt your lose through losing my Mom, I know how you feel…Love you all
