Obituary

It is with great sadness we share with all that Wendell Simmons has left this life he loved so much on June 23rd, 2012 at 5:03am. We will all miss his charismatic and magnetic personality. He squeezed every ounce of fun, excitement and life out of every moment he lived. He was kind hearted to a fault and he always made you laugh. He could tell a story better than most and he was famous for being the one central to the punch line. He loved tennis and ping pong and was known to beat everyone, no matter age or ability. Wendell always had a song in his heart and he was the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gerry, his mother, Vivian, his brother Glenn (Judy), his two children, Mark (Mark) and Wendy (Bob), his three step-children, John (Michele), Kelley (Jennifer), and David, his six grandchildren, Brandy, Candice, Tosha, Ambra, Melissa and Lauren and one great-grandchild, Aiden.

He fought valiantly to beat this disease of cancer and showed us all that a good man never dies, but lives with us in our re-telling of fond memories. So, please join us this Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10am for a memorial service to celebrate his life and a graveside ceremony at the family plot in Green Hills Cemetery at 2:45pm to lay him in his final resting place.

I will miss Wendell’s smiling face and kind personality. He was the leader and social coordinator of my senior fitness class. As I continue to instruct the class I will always remember Wendell’s energy front row, center. He made every member of the class, new and old, feel welcome. When they joined the class, Wendell made sure that not only were they starting a healthy exercise habit, they also gained a whole new group of friends. Wendell we will miss you!

I remember Wendell from high school as a great friend and the photographer of one of my favorite pictures. I was wearing my letterman’s jacket standing next to the NHS Gaucho ..I forget who was wearing it, when I playfully stuck my finger up the heads nose and Wendell took the picture. He delighted in showing the photo at the last reunion. I am blessed we reconnected and enjoyed our FB exchanges. RIP.

  4. I didn’t know Wendell very long, I just met he and Geri a few short months ago in Silver Sneakers Class. Wendell made me feel welcome at once and always greeted everyone by name. He was truly a unique and warm person and will be missed.

Gerry and family, you have our condolences and prayers. Wendell will be missed greatly by many people. He touched a lot of us with his fun and pointed emails; and he especially brightened our days with his presence during our exercise classes at 24 hr Fitness. Good bye, my friend!
