Obituary

It is with great sadness we share with all that Wendell Simmons has left this life he loved so much on June 23rd, 2012 at 5:03am. We will all miss his charismatic and magnetic personality. He squeezed every ounce of fun, excitement and life out of every moment he lived. He was kind hearted to a fault and he always made you laugh. He could tell a story better than most and he was famous for being the one central to the punch line. He loved tennis and ping pong and was known to beat everyone, no matter age or ability. Wendell always had a song in his heart and he was the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gerry, his mother, Vivian, his brother Glenn (Judy), his two children, Mark (Mark) and Wendy (Bob), his three step-children, John (Michele), Kelley (Jennifer), and David, his six grandchildren, Brandy, Candice, Tosha, Ambra, Melissa and Lauren and one great-grandchild, Aiden.

He fought valiantly to beat this disease of cancer and showed us all that a good man never dies, but lives with us in our re-telling of fond memories. So, please join us this Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10am for a memorial service to celebrate his life and a graveside ceremony at the family plot in Green Hills Cemetery at 2:45pm to lay him in his final resting place.

  1. Our hearts go out to you Gerry, on the passing of your beloved husband and to your family as well.

Wendell was a very special and unique person. I cannot think of a more kind or caring individual. He made everyone in Senior Aerobics feel welcome. He was the sole of our class and we always looked forward to his emails. Wendell will be truly missed.

  2. We are so truly sorry to hear about Wendell. He will be sorely missed for many things: his love, sense of humor, ability to make a corny joke still seem funny, moves on the dance floor and his generally happy nature. A light went out in the universe with his passing and the world is not so bright today as it was before Saturday. But his memory will live on in our hearts and in our thoughts. Wendell, thank you for making life fuller and richer for us all. Gerry, dad, mom, grandma, Mark and Wendy, please accept our heart-felt condolences.

    With Much Love,
    Victoria and Paul

  3. Wendy King says:

Bill and Gen I know that you know how much it hurts to loose a parent and you’ve both gone through it a number of times. I can recognize and admire how strong you two are especially right now. I really appreciate your love and support and take relief in knowing that our family is together in heaven. Love you both so much, Wendy

  4. It is hard to understand why people are taken from us. I find comfort in his memory. Wendlell was the kind of person who made everyone feel they were important to him.
His thoughtfulness, kindness and considerateness were boundless. I feel he was a gift to all of us and I am honored to have known him. I will remember him with fondness. I extend my deepest sympathy to Gerri and family. Lillian Chitty

  5. We are so sorry to hear about Wendell. Although we never met him Kelley told us so much about him and his courageous fighting spirit. We can only imagine what you are all feeling and send you our love. Margaret and John from England
