  2. I worked with Pete, Tess’s husband, at the Council on Aging/ HICAP Program for many years. Pete was a volunteer HICAP Counselor. He was supported by his better half, Tess. Tess and I had developed a very warm friendship based on years of short but wonderful conversations on the telephone, and many times giggling like school girls, about the ‘Godfather’, Pete. We both understood Pete’s tough exterior but warm heart.
Mostly, I was returning Pete’s call while he was out walking Hercules but I was assured by Tess, that he will be back shortly. Then, Tess and I would talk.
Sometimes, I would stop by after work to visit, Pete and Tess. She had deep wisdom and I always felt that she understood me and maybe, how tired I was at the end of a long hard workday (during these visits). She just had the warmth you felt. I felt very comfortable in her home. That’s a gift. She just made you feel comfortable and relaxed.
I know that Pete and Tess will always inspire me with their life long commitment, love and devotion to each other. I am very happy and very honored to have known this fine lady.
    God bless the Christie family.

Although I did not have the good fortune of knowing Tess, I am very lucky to have the opportunity to know Pete. He was my mentor during my early days of HICAP training for counselor and there was never a better teacher! Pete has a heart bigger than Texas. And as a Medicare counselor, his personality and sincere caring for people is extraordinary. My condolences to the Christie family. Pete, you will be in my heart always.
