Obituary

Filbeck, Leon Douglas, age 63, of Lake Forest, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2013 after a courageous eleven year battle with leukemia.

Leon was born in Santa Ana, CA on November 10, 1949. He was a graduate of Santa Ana Valley High in 1967 and received a bachelors of arts at Cal State Fullerton.

Leon played minor league baseball with the Cleveland Indians from 1968-1972. He was an avid fisherman, award-winning homebrewer and master barbecuer. His passion was life, his family and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 42 yrs., Nannette; his son, Ryan and two daughters Amber Hoyem (husband Shaun) and Andrea Johnson (husband Ryan); his two grandsons Ty and Trent Hoyem; granddaughter Reese Johnson; sister Janet Filbeck; and brothers David and Tommy Filbeck.

The graveside service celebrating his life will be held at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Rd, Lake Forest, 92630 on Friday, May 3 at 11:00 AM, to which family and friends are invited to attend. Leon will be forever loved and missed.

  1. Sorry to hear you lost Leon. He was a wonderful guy. I have many wonderful memories of spending time with the Filbecks and considered you part of my family growing up. So sorry for the loss of leon, I know his going to be missed by so many, he was such a neat guy. he always seemed to be so easy going, and carried his smile where ever he went. he was a light to me in my darkest hour, ill never forget the compassion he showed me when I felt there was nothing left for me to live for.I might not of known leon as well as others, but he was my friend, his kindness,will always be in my memories. ill always remember that Leon smile, my sincere condolences for your loss,and so many many others,as he touched so many lives, what an incredible guy, always Frank Samuels (Santa Ana Valley)

  5. Leon was one of the true good guys! I remember all of our fun memories of SAV High. One memory I treasure most, was his goodness and kindness when my mother died during our senior year. My world was a better place for having associated with him.
