Obituary

James Henry Ransom, beloved son of Greg and Courtney Ransom and brother to Julia and Lillianne, passed away on November 30, 2016. He was an eighth grader at Ladera Ranch Middle School. James was born on July 14, 2003. As a young child, James loved learning, mathematics, and playing with the neighborhood kids, who were more like siblings than friends. James always had strong opinions about how things should be, and is fondly remembered as the “boy who wore the yellow shirts” in elementary school. As he grew, he was active in Boy Scouts, Little League, Basketball, and Pop Warner Football. He loved traveling to visit his extended family in Washington State where his days were filled with outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and hiking. He was a kind boy who shared his kindness with strangers, stray animals, and everyone he came in contact with. He loved his own animals and had an incredible bond with his pets, especially his cat, Meg, who never left his side when he was home.

James was inquisitive and analytic. He knew where everything he wore, ate or used was made. James had a natural understanding of computer science and coding, as well as a love of politics. He often held challenging and thought provoking conversations with adults. He was a true friend and he appreciated the kindness of others. James will be remembered for his incredible intelligence, curiosity and sense of humor. He was deeply loved by his sisters who will never forget their “Bubby”.

James is survived by his parents, Greg and Courtney Ransom, sisters Julia and Lillianne, his paternal grandparents Harold and Carol Ransom, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Kenneth and Tanya Barnes.

Visitation and viewing will be from 7-9 pm on Thursday, December 8th at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills.

Services will be Friday December 9th at 10:00 am at the Mission Viejo California Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 27976 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo.

Memorial contributions in honor of James Ransom may be made to Mission Hospital Foundation to support their Mental Health and Wellness Initiative focused on Adolescent Behavioral Health (http://www.mission4health.com/Mission-Hospital-Foundation.aspx) or to Children’s Hospital Orange County Concussion Program (www.choc.org/giving).

    Dear Ransom Family,

    Something undeniable…

Most of our ‘friends’ have kids. They are all cute and special, but there was something undeniable about James. Of course he was a beautiful baby and an adorable young child. His big strong hands, and that charming little smile were endearing. We all loved seeing him in his yellow shirts and cuddling with his pets. That’s not it though. Maybe it was his obvious closeness with his sisters. Most kids aren’t as receptive to having their picture taken with their siblings, but with James you could see, or feel the deep love that he has for them.

All of those attributes are special, but that is not what stands out the most to me. The most striking thing throughout the years is the way he looks at the person behind the camera. There is a genuine sweetness there that resonates in all of his pictures. His face, spirit and soul shined through.

I don’t understand why after only 13 years God would take away this special gift he gave to this family. I am sure James, along with his precious sisters are the greatest gifts his parents have ever received.

His life and death has touched hundreds, if not thousands of people. We the ‘friends’ are all devastated by this loss. This devastation is beyond the sympathy we feel as parents, for parents that have lost a child. This is a true devastation for the loss of an earth angel.

    Much love,
    Shannon Cook
