Obituary

James Henry Ransom, beloved son of Greg and Courtney Ransom and brother to Julia and Lillianne, passed away on November 30, 2016. He was an eighth grader at Ladera Ranch Middle School. James was born on July 14, 2003. As a young child, James loved learning, mathematics, and playing with the neighborhood kids, who were more like siblings than friends. James always had strong opinions about how things should be, and is fondly remembered as the “boy who wore the yellow shirts” in elementary school. As he grew, he was active in Boy Scouts, Little League, Basketball, and Pop Warner Football. He loved traveling to visit his extended family in Washington State where his days were filled with outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and hiking. He was a kind boy who shared his kindness with strangers, stray animals, and everyone he came in contact with. He loved his own animals and had an incredible bond with his pets, especially his cat, Meg, who never left his side when he was home.

James was inquisitive and analytic. He knew where everything he wore, ate or used was made. James had a natural understanding of computer science and coding, as well as a love of politics. He often held challenging and thought provoking conversations with adults. He was a true friend and he appreciated the kindness of others. James will be remembered for his incredible intelligence, curiosity and sense of humor. He was deeply loved by his sisters who will never forget their “Bubby”.

James is survived by his parents, Greg and Courtney Ransom, sisters Julia and Lillianne, his paternal grandparents Harold and Carol Ransom, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Kenneth and Tanya Barnes.

Visitation and viewing will be from 7-9 pm on Thursday, December 8th at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills.

Services will be Friday December 9th at 10:00 am at the Mission Viejo California Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 27976 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo.

Memorial contributions in honor of James Ransom may be made to Mission Hospital Foundation to support their Mental Health and Wellness Initiative focused on Adolescent Behavioral Health (http://www.mission4health.com/Mission-Hospital-Foundation.aspx) or to Children’s Hospital Orange County Concussion Program (www.choc.org/giving).

  1. I will always remember How eager James was to come into this world…he was always destined for entry into the newest place. I will never forget the boy who was loved so very much and always will be. Lots of love from your family in West Virginia, know that we are all praying for you, we love you, and we shoulder this burden alongside you. Never alone Courtney. Our kids have always belonged to all of us – the good and the bad that comes with it. Love you just so much.

  3. It was with heavy hearts and great sadness to learn of the passing of your beloved and cherished James. My family feels honored and privileged to have known your sweet James and Aidan will always remember him as his friend. I know he will cherish the childhood memories of trick-or-treating, block parties, and just hanging out with the boys on the block; William, Reece and James. Our love, prayers and thoughts will be with your family during this devastating time
