Obituary

James Henry Ransom, beloved son of Greg and Courtney Ransom and brother to Julia and Lillianne, passed away on November 30, 2016. He was an eighth grader at Ladera Ranch Middle School. James was born on July 14, 2003. As a young child, James loved learning, mathematics, and playing with the neighborhood kids, who were more like siblings than friends. James always had strong opinions about how things should be, and is fondly remembered as the “boy who wore the yellow shirts” in elementary school. As he grew, he was active in Boy Scouts, Little League, Basketball, and Pop Warner Football. He loved traveling to visit his extended family in Washington State where his days were filled with outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and hiking. He was a kind boy who shared his kindness with strangers, stray animals, and everyone he came in contact with. He loved his own animals and had an incredible bond with his pets, especially his cat, Meg, who never left his side when he was home.

James was inquisitive and analytic. He knew where everything he wore, ate or used was made. James had a natural understanding of computer science and coding, as well as a love of politics. He often held challenging and thought provoking conversations with adults. He was a true friend and he appreciated the kindness of others. James will be remembered for his incredible intelligence, curiosity and sense of humor. He was deeply loved by his sisters who will never forget their “Bubby”.

James is survived by his parents, Greg and Courtney Ransom, sisters Julia and Lillianne, his paternal grandparents Harold and Carol Ransom, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Kenneth and Tanya Barnes.

Visitation and viewing will be from 7-9 pm on Thursday, December 8th at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills.

Services will be Friday December 9th at 10:00 am at the Mission Viejo California Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 27976 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo.

  2. I still can’t believe that you’re gone. You were the the most adorable, kind, and smart little boy. I remember Bella and I always fought to see who could get more hugs from our little cousin James. I will always remember your bright smile and cute little laugh. I am so deeply saddened to have lost you. My heart aches for your family. You will be missed so much by us all. Heaven has gained a new angel. Love you James:heart: Caroline

  4. Watching James grow up has been a privilege and a honor.I remember the year he wore a yellow shirt everyday. And he was so handsome he could pull off wearing yellow! His smile lite up a room. And the way he played and cared for the younger kids on our street was just one example of how kind he was! He will be in my heart always. I can’t adequately put into words how sorry I am. We love you Courtney, Greg, Julia and Lillie. God Bless you. Xxxooo

  5. Dear Ransom Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember all of you with such fondness. James was such a delight in kindergarten. Though he was light years beyond many of his peers academically he was always kind and caring. He was fun-loving and participated with exurberance in all things. I remember helping him to improve his printing as if it were yesterday. I loved that his little hands and fingers still had their little dimples and bit of baby pudge. Melissa Williams, his teacher of record, chuckled so when I told her how I loved his little hands. Greg was always such a welcome classroom volunteer and when he came in James was always so happy. Their father/son connection was adorable and exemplary. I know teachers never have favorites, but if they did, your family would be at the top of my list. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your love for each other and the love of family and friends help to sustain you all during this difficult time. XO Mrs. Ralston
