Obituary

Edith Mary Almeida was born to Louis and Florence Azavedo on August 2, 1929 in Bombay, India. She was the second of five siblings (sisters Lucy, Beryl, Iona and brother Milton) and the last surviving member of her family. She was married to Archibald Almeida for fifty years and raised three daughters – Coral, Nora and Debbie.

She has two grandsons – Alexander/Melissa, Travis/Ileane and three adorable great grandchildren – Xavier, Judith and Evelyn.

In her teens, Edith got interested in sewing. After a long school day, she would walk to the tailor shop and collect scraps of fabric to sew dresses for her dolls.  Later, she was an apprentice to a dress designer and soon learned the art of tailoring. She started her own dress-making business. Her specialty was designing wedding gowns and became well known in the community for excellence in this field.  Her creativity knew no bounds. She could be anything from a seamstress to a hair-stylist to an excellent cook.

Edith believed in a simple life.  Her humility, faith and giving spirit touched the lives of many around her.

In conclusion, these short paragraphs cannot capture her love of life and true spirit.  She has left behind wonderful memories and will be deeply missed by her family and all who came to know her.

They say that memories are golden,

Well maybe that is true,

But we never wanted memories,

We only wanted you.

Coral/Gabriel, Nora/Jay and Debbie

  1. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am John 14:3

It is often said that one of the saddest moments in life is the death of a dear one. Well, I beg to differ….as to me it is a celebration of life. Losing a mother is not easy, but it comforts us to know that a good soul has finally made its way home. Heaven has added an angel. Aunty Eddy was a beautiful person inside out and a truly extraordinary woman who was admired by everyone who knew her.
May fond memories of her give you comfort dearest Coral, Nora and Debbie during this time. May our Lord comfort you and your extended families as I hope the sorrow you are going through heals with the passage of time. May you find solace in the lovely memories you all shared with her.
May A.Eddy rest in eternal peace

    Dearest Coral, Nora and Debbie,

Our heartfelt wishes are with you. May you find strength in each other and the memories of your mum. She will be missed dearly by us all, so glad we got to see her in person a few years ago.

May you’ll find peace in this difficult time.

  3. Dear Debbie,

Preeti and I are really saddened about your loss. Aunty was such a gentle and loving person. Always smiling and welcoming whenever we stopped by to meet her. My only regret is that I did not meet her up recently but Preeti was fortunate to see her for her birthday earlier this year.

May God give you and your family strength to cope up in these difficult times and may her soul Rest In Peace!

    Hugs!!
    Preeti & Mandeep

  5. Coral, Nora, Debbie and Family. In memory of our Dearest A. Edy. Yes she is your rock and her memory will keep you all strong. I have so many fond memories of her from making xmas treats to her sewing our dresses for my parent’s 25th anniversary. She was always generous and kind and she was my inspiration to teach myself to sew without a pattern. Our prayers continue for you all. May A. Edy rest in peace in the presence of our Lord. Love Mignonne, Dan, Adam, Emily and Nalini
