Obituary

David Stubbs-Almlie, age 53, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Huntington Beach California following a yearlong battle with cancer. He was the son of Paul and Joan Stubbs, and leaves behind his adoring wife of 15 years, Lisa, their two sons Cody (11) and Shane (8), as well as his father Paul Stubbs and sister, Traci Scinto.

Dave grew up in Woodland Hills, California and graduated from Taft High School. He later acquired a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Dave has been a Huntington Beach resident since the early 80’s. He was a dedicated member in the food service industry devoting twenty-eight years to the business, where he developed and maintained numerous friendships over the years that remain strong to this day. Dave also met his wife Lisa through work in 1994 and married her soon after.

Dave was a very disciplined and passionate man who did nothing in moderation; it was all or nothing. He was a loving husband, an exemplary father and devoted friend. Dave always took the time, had the right words and the best advice for all. Dave had a brilliant mind, which was filled with a lifelong love of books and knowledge.

Dave dedicated his life to martial arts. He received several degrees in black belts and inspired his students to adopt the same philosophies and passions for the art.

Dave has left behind an ever-expanding trail of people whose lives have been etched deeply by his pursuit of living life to the fullest, and always giving 100% to everything he did.

Dave will be remembered as an influential inspiration whose shining light has brightened and warmed each of our hearts and souls. He is a true warrior who has left an eternal impression on this world.

  1. Jeff, I too have known Dave for many years. Although we never worked together I always enjoyed speaking with him at industry functions. I will always remember Dave as a class act, and a very “friendly competitor”. He will truly be missed.

All our prayers go out to his Family.

Jeff, I too have known Dave for so many years and share all of your same thoughts about him. The world isn’t as much fun, he was a guy that really lived to the fullest. As Dave became more involved with US Foodservice we kind of lost touch but I saw him not too long ago and it was exactly as you described it, we didn’t miss a beat. I had Dave over to my house a few years back, he took an old wooden jungle Gym out of my yard and put it in his, and rebuilt it and made it better and even more dangerous 😉
It is a very sad time in foodservice and all of us are thinking about and praying for Dave’s family and hoping that the wonderful memories he left will carry them through the days ahead. He was quite a guy, nobody like him.

Hello I’m Tony Eden. I first met Dave when our son, who is now 10, was at Tutor-time school in Newport Beach. Our son, Cameron, attended with Dave’s oldest boy, Cody. They were together as infants there at that school. As the years went on Cody and Cameron became toddlers, they become great friends. So, naturally, us as the parents became close with Dave and Lisa, especially since they also lived in Huntington Beach. In the spring of 2005, I told Dave one day that I was going to take a soccer team at AYSO and asked him if he wanted to coach with me. This is where he discovered that Cody was a “baller”. Cody and Cameron quickly became the scoring duo and Cody was off doing what he does best, ball handling and taking shots. Dave was a dedicated assistant coach, always helping me out just enough to not step on the head coach’s toes. Being relatively new at soccer coaching, I always asked him for is input on how to actually coach soccer. He was the best, always knowing exactly what to say, when to say it and HOW to say it. I didn’t know Dave as a black belt, a motorcycle guy, or a food service manager, but rather a dedicated Father to his boys and a wonderful husband to Lisa. The picture I uploaded here really depicts how Dave was. He sort of stood in the shadows always eager to help, but when called upon, stepped up more than anyone I know. We’ll all miss you Dave and our prayers are with Lisa, Cody and Shane.

My name is Jose Cabrera…I met Dave through Lisa his beautiful and wonderful wife…I use to be Lisa’s co-worker and I’ve never met such a wonderful woman. They were kind to give my wife work as a housekeeper. That is how I met Dave…and I can’t forget when Lisa showed me Dave’s ramp in the backyard….that right there showed me he was very energetic and adventerous man. You could tell right away he was a awesome father and husband. Lisa was a very blessed to be his wife and Dave was blessed to have Lisa as a wife…I saw in them that they were meant for each other.Beautiful family!!! I love them so much that when I was moving to North Carolina….I just had to go to their house and say goodbye…..now that I think about it I’am glad we went because that was the last time I saw Dave.We love you Lisa.
