Obituary

David Stubbs-Almlie, age 53, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Huntington Beach California following a yearlong battle with cancer. He was the son of Paul and Joan Stubbs, and leaves behind his adoring wife of 15 years, Lisa, their two sons Cody (11) and Shane (8), as well as his father Paul Stubbs and sister, Traci Scinto.

Dave grew up in Woodland Hills, California and graduated from Taft High School. He later acquired a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Dave has been a Huntington Beach resident since the early 80’s. He was a dedicated member in the food service industry devoting twenty-eight years to the business, where he developed and maintained numerous friendships over the years that remain strong to this day. Dave also met his wife Lisa through work in 1994 and married her soon after.

Dave was a very disciplined and passionate man who did nothing in moderation; it was all or nothing. He was a loving husband, an exemplary father and devoted friend. Dave always took the time, had the right words and the best advice for all. Dave had a brilliant mind, which was filled with a lifelong love of books and knowledge.

Dave dedicated his life to martial arts. He received several degrees in black belts and inspired his students to adopt the same philosophies and passions for the art.

Dave has left behind an ever-expanding trail of people whose lives have been etched deeply by his pursuit of living life to the fullest, and always giving 100% to everything he did.

Dave will be remembered as an influential inspiration whose shining light has brightened and warmed each of our hearts and souls. He is a true warrior who has left an eternal impression on this world.

  1. I met Dave and Lisa at one of the hardest times of my life. My children and I were incredibly lucky to have Dave and Lisa enter our lives. I admired Dave’s devotion to his children and Lisa. Dave always had something positive and supportive to say. My son, Ethan, loved to be at the house with Cody and Shane to be a part of the excitement and activities that Dave shared with his boys in leading an active life. A special memory I have of Dave is his surprise purchase for Lisa. Cody and Shane had been over to play and when Lisa and Dave came to pick them up, they arrived in Lisa’s new Sequoia!! The emotion, excitement and love of his family was very clear to me on this occasion and I remember thinking to myself…”what a great guy!”

I am deeply saddened Lisa, for your loss and for the loss to Cody and Shane. I am comforted in knowing that you had the experience of true love of a friend, husband and father with Dave.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

  2. What a wonderful tribute to Dave. He would be honored.

  3. Thank you all for your kind words and wonderful memories.

A truly bright light has gone out but will it continue to burn bright in our hearts and light our way as Dave embarks a new journey.

Godspeed my dear Brother. Until we meet again. Give Mom a kiss for me.
    Love you always.

  4. Tony Arrigo says:

My name is Tony Arrigo. Dave Stubbs was my friend for twenty six years and each one of those years I will cherish. The great thing about Dave in any situation was his wit, charm, warmth, sense of humor, glib command of the moment and just his inner soul. When Dave would listen to what was going on in your life, both business or personal, he would always find the positive side of your problems. I never left, after a Dave Stubb’s session, without feeling better for the time spent. One thing most of us knew for sure, if we asked a question or sought his advice, be ready to hear a complete and through review of many things you never thought would be covered. To me, Dave was always the tallest guy in the group. Funny how easy it always was to look up to him as a true friend.
Lisa, thank you for our talk the other day. I’m very confident God has a real treat in store as Dave checks into heaven. Can you even imagine what extra provisions He will need to provide once Dave settles in up there?
May God bring you, Cody and Shane His blessings of Peace and comfort.

  5. We did not know Dave well on a personal basis but we did know of him professionally. Whenever Dave’s name came up in any business manner it was with great respect and admiration. I was always suspicious of how anyone could be held in such high esteem, but after meeting Dave i am convinced that he deserved the accolades he received.
I am sure these qualities were carried over to Dave’s personal life and his relationship with his family. Even though Dave is not with us his contribution professionally and personally will live on.

My sincere condolences to his family, friends and business associates,
