  1. We feel blessed that we got to know Carl both in Aspen and Atlanta. I respected him in so many ways. I loved how he adored his Atlanta family and took great joy skiing with Sarah, Joseph and Alexander. Carl had a great sense of humor and I always thought that Carl was a wonderful role model for his nephews and a loving brother. It was also evident that he was a wonderful father. He always spoke so lovingly of you Morgan and Tommy and beamed of great pride speaking of your accomplishments. I hope that you can take some comfort in knowing how much he loved you. Carl will be greatly missed by so many. We are so sorry for your loss and will keep you in our prayers.

  2. Carl,
So very sad you’ve departed. A fun-loving cousin, daring and interesting, protective yet game, easy to love and always up for wild adventures, whether in Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Marine Land, Disneyland (remember the record-breaking car pileups in TomorrowLand!), times at the ocean, fishing at Swan Lake, Beresford Pool and the parties on farms in South Dakota, to name just a few, so many memorable blasts (literally and figuratively) with you and Sarah. And yes, I so valued your use of fireworks (as you used to say, so many firecrackers, so little time) as a reliable tool for examining the world around us. You brought happiness and excitement and good will wherever you presented yourself, not only then but throughout our creaky older years. More importantly, you raised Morgan into one beautiful, thoughtful, kind-hearted, loving spirit. And am so sorry Sarah will have to endure the physical absence of her only brother. Wish I could say I’ll see you in Heaven, but still a bit iffy that I’ll even qualify. Love you Carl, will miss you. Patti (Nygaard)

I was very surprised and sad to hear of Carl’s passing. We met and chatted regularly at UCI baseball games. He was a fixture in the front row of section 105 the last few years. I didn’t know him very well, but enjoyed our conversations and was proud to be a fellow Eater Alum with him. Not many former players attended many of the games in the last several years, but he was at most of them with that well-worn older UCI cap supporting his alma mater. I’ll miss you Carl. Rest easy in that glorious place.

  4. His days at UC Irvine were unforgettable ones, and we were so fortunate to spend the ’73 and ’74 NCAA championship years with him. When we heard the news of his passing we immediately felt very sad but then we had to smile. We remember him and his antics on and off the field vividly, yet fondly. Carl was the epitome of life and always lived it to the fullest. Carl was in the front row at our 1974 Las Vegas wedding – then at dinner he sat next to our parents entertaining everyone. We often wondered about all the guys after 1974 – always wishing them well. They were quite a brotherhood of friends. We can see from all these tributes that Carl indeed had a great life with incredible friends and family. We thank you Carl for being a part of ours lives. Rest in peace.

We have many wonderful memories of Carl beginning with the PW days. Marc first worked with Carl on the CalComp job and then again on First American. And Loye and Debbie used to commiserate with each other over not seeing the guys for days on end. We remember all our crazy sailing adventures with Carl & Loye, Barney & Alice and Alan & Jeanie. It’s a wonder we lived through some of those adventures on the water. Carl was a positive spirit in our lives. We are so grateful for the time we had with him. He will always be a warm memory in our hearts and will be so greatly missed.
