Obituary

Dr. Skipi L. Smoot

Dr. Skipi L. Smoot, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Laguna Niguel on August 19. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lee; her son Ted Lundquist and his wife Kathy; her granddaughter Amber Rose Anderson; and step-son, Matthew Emery Smoot.

Dr. Smoot was a successful owner-operator of two McDonald’s restaurants in San Pedro, CA and after moving to Virginia, ran another successful McDonald’s in Williamsburg, VA, where she was one of the first female operators on the East Coast.

After selling her McDonald’s, she pursued her love of psychology. After degrees from William & Mary, Pepperdine, and CSPP, she had earned her Ph.D., which for the next 30 years she used to become a successful marriage and family psychologist.

She loved music and was a very accomplished singer. She also wrote a psychology book, “Maturation, The Adult Paradigm”.

    Kathy and Ted,
I had no idea, until a few minutes ago, that Dr. Smoot passed away. Although I’m grateful she passed peacefully in her sleep, I’m sobbing and overwhelmed with sadness that she’s no longer here. I truly thought she’d live forever. She was one of the most remarkable women I’ve ever met and thank you for sharing her with me. She influenced me in so many wonderful ways and also changed the way I continue to interact with the world. I’ll never be able to repay her for ‘being there’ for me at a time when I needed her most. Thinking of you and the family during this time of great loss. Please accept my sincerest sympathies. She was a precious treasure and I will never ever forget her.
    From my heart, Kris

I called Dr. Skipi this past weekend and when the message said the phone was disconnected i had a sense of something. I will love her forever as will my children Tyler, Hannah and Noah. She helped us so much with honesty, insight, compassion, wisdom and advice. Our hearts are broken. What a great loving person.
God Bless Dr. Skipi always and now we will be asking for wisdom from Heaven.
    Teresa, Tyler, Hannah and Noah

Jasmine and I saw skipi over a 25 year period. She gave us a wealth of lifetime information with grace and dignity. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. She will remain forever loved and missed.
