Obituary

Roy Gerard Mytinger January 10, 1959 – April, 16, 2011

Roy was born the fourth child and only son to LeRoy and Flora Mytinger in Newport, Rhode Island. He attended Middletown High School and Santa Clara University where he majored in civil engineering.

He was a devoted son to his parents, a loving and caring brother, and an amazing uncle to Natalie, Joel, Jeri, Rico, and Troy. Roy was a special uncle and father figure to his nephew, Troy. He taught Troy how to be a respectful and caring young man. To his sisters, Marianne, Paula, and Wanda he continued to display a sense of humor and taught them how to find bright spots during his darkest days.

One of Roy’s passions was cars. He enjoyed restoring cars to their original pristine shape, the most famous being his 1967 Shelby Gt 500. He was considered a perfectionist and his cars were premier examples. He was a member of the Saddleback Mustang Association and the Cobra Owners’ Club of America where he grew close with many friends.

Another passion of Roy’s was watching hockey. He started watching his nephew and was hooked, wondering why he ever enjoyed baseball. He has been an Anaheim Ducks season ticket holder since 1993, and despite his illness, continued to enjoy Ducks’ games with friends and family. Determined to continue his fight, Roy attended a Ducks’ playoff game the evening preceding his death.

Roy was hired by Foundation Pile, Inc. as a civil engineer in 1981, where he worked for 23 years until Lou Gehrig’s disease forced his retirement. Foundation Pile, Inc. will always be endeared in the hearts of the Mytinger/Dufault family for their never-ending love and support to Roy in his journey battling Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Roy will forever live in our hearts as a son, brother, and friend.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at Saddleback Church on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM.

O’Connor will deliver flowers gifted to family to Roy’s service.

  1. Roy loved to deep sea fish! We spent many memorable hours on the ocean fishing for the BIG one. Roy and I fished in Canadian and Mexican waters .usually from sun up to sun down, rain or shine. Roy was just a great guy to have as a fishing partner.I have many fishing stories from those wonderful trips. Sometimes Roy didn’t say much but was he was truly a man of his word.I shall miss him. My condolence to the family.

  2. Our deepest condolences to the Mytinger and Dufault families.

  3. It is said that grief is the result of loving someone so much. Roy was so dearly loved by so many. He was an inspiration in strength to all who knew him. He can’t be thought of without remembering some antic he conjured up. His wit always made us smile and his memories will always contain a chuckle of something he did to cause us to laugh. Who did not love that he started each Facebook post with “Hey Bitches?” Who could have asked for a better brother, father/uncle, friend, son than we had in Roy? He is finally free. I am thankful I knew Roy.

Roy was truly a friend in every since of the word. I loved spending time with Roy at the Speedway and at his home Working on the loser mobile or helping put the Shelby together, or just one of the many get-togethers at his home. I remember many years ago after I lost my mustang, Roy gave me his White Convertible for a weekend to get my mustang fix.

Roy, you will be loved and missed forever.

  5. I am sadden to hear this news. I knew one day the message would find me that Roy was gone…but none the less it is very difficult to deal with. My heart and prayers go out to Wanda, Marianne, and Paula and the rest of Roy’s family.

I came to know Roy through our love of cars at a Mustang car show at the Petersen Museum in LA…his yellow 67 coupe and my 66 Fastback parked along side each other against the wall. We talked through out the day about our cars and Mustangs in general and so our friendship began…great memories of that day remain. We also spent time at Mustang shows in Long Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita and Santa Ana over the years and always shared our love for our cars…but more importantly we shared our time together.

Roy was a joy to be around…and my life is much enriched for knowing him. I was lucky enough to be invited with my car to the gala party at the hotel in Costa Mesa…what a great evening we all had. And finally a friend of mine, Marc Richonne, and I were able to help a dream of Roy’s come true. Roy wanted to own a Shelby and we came across one in need of restoration and we let Roy know it was available. The rest is history as the 67 Shelby GT 500 completed its restoration. I was so happy to see it all done. It took time and dedication to get that job done…but Roy was up to the task. Its a magnificent tribute to Roy’s dedication to one of his dreams.

I will miss Roy’s presence at future COCOA shows but will know in my heart he’s up there looking down with a smile on his face. Roy you are a very much loved man. Rest in peace my friend.

    Your good friend,

    Sandy Galbraith
