  1. So sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. My deepest sympathies. May the Lord provide comfort to all friends and loved ones during this time.

  2. My heartfelt condolences to Peter’s family. Peter was a great neighbor and I’ll miss seeing him at the mailbox. R.I.P.

I sure will miss Peter. He was such a fantastic engineer and wonderful person. I will always remember his dry sense of humor. He could deliver a subtle joke and keep a straight face no matter how long it took to “get it” and how much it made you laugh.

I wonder how many people know that Peter was one of the most valuable engineers in the design and operation of ASTRO, the Autonomous Servicing and Transfer Robotic Orbiter satellite that was flown by Boeing and DARPA in 2007. That project was cutting edge technology to prove that satellites could be serviced by other satellites while on orbit without assistance by ground operators. Peter was one of the developers of the ARCSS system, which was essentially the autopilot that allowed ASTRO to perform automated rendezvous and docking. That technology formed the foundation of the latest automated rendezvous and docking technology being used by Boeing and NASA today.

Thank you, Randy Rubens, for sharing this impressive information about Peter’s distinguished work at Boeing. I and my fellow senior ping pong players have wonderful memories of friendship and competition with Peter for many years. However, only now have we learned about his illustrious career and legacy. Peter did not talk about his valuable role in America’s space program. We are honored to have known him and to add his legacy to our memories of his life.

  4. Randy Rubens says:

We’ll miss you, Peter. I was so glad to get to know you as while we worked together on Orbital Express. I will always remember you were a master at telling a joke with a straight face!

I want everyone to remember what a valuable role you played in America’s space program. You were a key design engineer in the cutting edge development of the automated rendezvous and docking technology system that was demonstrated in 2007 and formed the foundation for the technology that is being used today by Boeing and NASA.

  5. I will always remember how calm and measured Peter was in his interactions. Thank you for further opening and inviting his larger group of friends from Boeing to join and participate in his celebration of life. I worked with Peter at Boeing on the Orbital Express program, and he was such a pleasant and nice person to be around, regardless of the circumstances.
