Obituary

Mary Helen Tressler, who was 90 years old, passed peacefully to life eternal on September 15th2018 and resided in Placentia, California. She was a devoted woman of faith and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was raised in a traditional Italian family in Pennsylvania with her parents, Henry & Elizabeth and her siblings, Anthony, Benny, Dorothy Jean and Catherine Anne. She met her husband James while he was on leave during WW II and they have been married and shared over 70 years of life together raising their children and volunteering their time, talent and treasure at various Catholic parishes throughout Orange County after they left Pennsylvania in 1957 and came west so her husband could pursue new opportunities to support their growing family.

Mary’s faith and belief as a Catholic was not simply a Sunday activity but was the core of what she was and what she lived. Raising four boys was not easy but she did not accept any excuse for not gathering in the evening after dinner to pray the rosary or during Lent to also have “silent time”. Although she was small in size make no mistake she was larger than life when it came time for her sons, whom she deeply loved, to be corrected, disciplined or the famous, “wait till your father comes home and I tell him”.

What made Mary extraordinary to those who knew her was the ability she had to make the ordinary special whether by her smile, her touch, her words or her faith. As she has touched us all by her life and her legacy of faith may we also remember her in our love and with our prayers.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, James W Tressler Sr.; her sons James Jr., Robert (Sally), Dennis and Richard (Sheryll); her grandchildren, Nicole (Zack) Jukam, Alisha, Brian, Brandon & Drew (Kimberley) and great grandchildren, Haley, Barrett and Dillion. She is also survived by her brother Benny and his wife Flo, as well as 5 nieces, 12 nephews, 11 great nieces and 17 great nephews.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your loved one.

  2. She fought a good fight, finished her course, kept the faith: now there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness.

Mary, you were a loving mother to me; full of grace, encouragement, and wisdom. Thank you for reaching out! I will always remember you and cherish the time we had <3 I am sad you are gone but so grateful I'll see you again!! You were always looking to Jesus, the author an finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sits down at the right hand of the throne of God. We (mankind) are His joy!!

My deepest and sincere condolences to you all.

  3. I loved her like she was my own mother.

  4. May God embrace Mary Helen with loving open arms. May Mary Helen’s soul be filled with warmth and eternal bliss and she is greeted by all loved ones who have gone before her. Thoughts and prayers are with James and family. By all accounts, to know James, is to know a man who whose love, admiration, and respect for his Mother is paramount. Asking God provide strength, comfort and faith during this difficult time.

  5. We always looked forward to seeing Mary and James at 4:00pm Mass. She always had a smile and a good word to share. She is spiritually still with us. Both of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
