Obituary

Liam John Shanahan, 66, of Laguna Woods, California, beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, died on February 12, 2012. Liam died suddenly at home after a heart attack. He was born on June 25, 1945 in Cork, Ireland to Anne Buckley and James Shanahan.

Liam grew up in Cork, Ireland and emigrated to America when he was 16 years old. He started his own flooring business installing linoleum and carpet in the San Francisco Bay Area. He later relocated to the Los Angeles area where he started a water treatment business, Liam Research International. The ideals and drive for success set the foundation for the development of Aqua-Phyd. Liam was the Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer and major shareholder of Aqua-Phyd.

Liam is survived by his daughters Deirdrea and Fiona, brothers Michael and Noel, sisters Noreen, Teresa, and Phyllis, grand-daughter Brianna grand-sons Devin, Tyler and Shane brother-in-law Ray, sister-inlaw Breda, ex-wife Margie his many nieces and nephews and friends. Liam will be deeply missed by his family he was a star that burned brightly that dimmed too soon. His sense of humor and his unbreakable spirit carried him through to the end.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Road, Laguna Woods, CA 92637, Tuesday February 21, 2012 at 9 a.m.

Liam’s ashes will interred with Military Honors on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:45 a.m.

Following the interment, there will be a reception for the celebration of his life at the home of his brother, Noel at 1166 Melville Drive, Riverside, CA 92506.

Flowers may be sent to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 24252 El Toro Road, Laguna Woods, CA 92637.

  1. I was a huge fan of liams!!! We used to talk about Cork because my father was from there as well. Another friend of Liams,Kevin Yarter joined me at the Blarney stone in Cork 3 years ago with my other family and we chatted up liam. He was a special friend and an outstanding member of society and will be missed terribly! All the best as Liam would say!!!!! PT

  3. We’re so sad to hear about our Uncle Liam’s death. we have great memories of him when we lived in California in the early 80’s. He was certainly a character and will be missed greatly.

  5. I only met Liem once but liked him right off the bat. He meant sooooo much to Brian, Pam , Kayla and Kelsey. I know the sorrow they and all of you are feeling and praying for you all daily. Rest in peace Liem. You were adored as an Uncle.
