Obituary

Lena was born on August 5, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Philomena and Francis Petruzzi, immigrants of Italy. Her only surviving sibling, Virginia Illinicki, resides in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, and her other six siblings are deceased. Lena was widowed in 2001 with the passing of her beloved Bernard Ben Stanley Rolewicz. Lena had three children. She is survived by daughters Donna Jimenez and Tina Rolewicz. Her son, Bernard Rolewicz, is deceased. She is also survived by a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Lena loved her family deeply.

Lena was a homemaker and being of Italian heritage was both the matriarch of the family and a wonderful cook. She loved watching the Food Network and trying out new recipes. She stayed young by solving word search puzzles and watching American Idol. Her sense of humor kept us all laughing, and if you were so lucky to be on the receiving end of one of her famous ‘slaps’ you knew you were part of the family. Even after moving to Orange County 11 years ago, she was a die-hard democrat who once said, ‘Every time I see George Bush on the T.V. I flip him off!’ This came with a pause and then much laughter once we realized she meant she ‘flipped him off’ by changing the channel with her remote control channel flipper.

Lena had many health challenges in the past few years and went to hemo-dialysis 4 days per week where the Davita Dialysis staff became a part of her extended family. Our thanks to our many family and friends who supported her until her body just wore out. Lena had a long and blessed life and will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Service will be held at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills on Tuesday, November 9, at 10:00am. The Burial Ceremony will be held at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00pm. A celebration of Lena’s life will be held for friends and family at 5:00pm that evening.

  1. I love you Mom more then I did my own mom. I will miss you but I will always keep you and Ben Dad in my heart and spirt forever. Thank you for your love now and forever.

  2. Donna says:

    Dear Mom,
I love you so much. You were always there for me and stood up for me even when you knew I wrong. I wish I just had a little more time with you. But that is selfish because I know you were in so much pain.

Mom, I will always remember that last weekend we spent together. I baked you a vanilla coconut cake which you said was dry, but ate the whole cake. We sat and talked for hours. We had a wonderful time.

I love you with all my heart and will miss you, until we meet again.

    I love you,
    Your daughter Donna

  3. Grandma, I remember coming to your house when I was around 4 years old with my mom and we would sit at the table and drink coffee or tea. I loved to rake the blue shag carpet in the family room and I loved to eat the pancakes rolled up with cottage cheese! You always had the fun stuff at your house like, my little pink toothbrush and the scope to rinse with after brushing my teeth, the first remote controlled television with the big button channel changer. And the sheets and towels that smelled like Downey. I loved to try and stay up with you to wee hours of the morning, but I always fell asleep on the sofa real early. I loved that you didn’t like Turkey and always made a great Italian dish for the holidays, and you made the best meatballs ever! I will always remember going to your house on my lunch break from school and taking a nap on your recliner while watching soaps. I love that you and Papa stood up for me when I made my communion and my confirmation and that you never missed a class with me, you where both such awesome roll models for me. I loved that you always used powder and always smelled like Chantilly or vanilla. How did you always have so many coins in your coin purse, weren’t they heavy? I love that you loved me unconditionally, you were always there no matter what! I love that you were able to spend time and make a memory for my sweet little Charley, she will always remember you as her Great Grandma, what a gift that is. How is it that you always had certs in your handbag, you never ran out…I will miss you with all my heart and all my soul everyday, I wish I could give you one more hug and one more kiss and just tell you that I love you. Love you always, Dana

  4. Aunt Lena, Rest well and peacefully. I remember stopping by the doughnut shop in Monterey Park all those years ago when you worked there to, of coursse, hit you up for a doughnut….Donna and Tina and family, you are in my thoughts,

    Tony

  5. I will miss her deeply. She was a great aunt to me, and a loving person; with a laugh I will always keep in my heart.
