Obituary

John David McNicol was born on October 17, 1966, the fourth child of Marlene and James McNicol. His father James was an engineer in the aerospace industry and he and his family were living in Bangkok, Thailand where John was born. They also lived in Pennsylvania and Florida during John’s childhood before settling in Southern California. He graduated from Tustin High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton. John was the CFO of XcellWave, a technical services provider to the wireless communication industry and the President of Aircraft Information Services, Inc., appraisers of commercial aviation. He was a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders and a certified ISTAT Appraiser, one of only about 40 in the world. He was well respected in his industry and in all aspects of his life.

John and Elaine were married for over 20 years and have three beautiful children: Ashley, Rachel and Kyle. They created a warm and loving home together for their family, and friends always felt invited. He was a loving and caring husband and father, attending everything in which his children participated. He loved to travel with his family, taking them on many wonderful trips and reveled in the planning and preparation to make each trip perfect.

John passed away on November 13, 2010, after a 7-month battle with Leukemia. He is survived by his wife Elaine; children, Ashley, Rachel and Kyle; mother, Marlene McNicol, sister, Susan Keith Robishaw; brothers, Peter Sheryl McNicol and James Tanya McNicol; six nieces; one nephew; and many more family members and friends who will miss him dearly. His love for his family and friends will be cherished through our countless memories of John.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2:00 pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30522 Via con Dios in Rancho Santa Margarita. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a scholarship fund for the children: The Kyle, Rachel, and Ashley McNicol Trust Fund, c/o AISI, 26072 Merit Circle, #123, Laguna Hills, CA 92653. 4. This is the hardest thing I have ever written in my life. Needless to say I have started and stopped several times as I am at a loss for words. When we have read and have been told that “only God knows why”… well, obviously this is one of those times. John has worked his magic by creating what I would consider one of the strongest and most incredible family units that I have ever known. Time heals everything but nothing will ever take away the memory of this great man. I am going to live my life as he lived it even when he was stricken with Leukemia. Take one day at a time and cherish it like it may be your last. His strength and positive attitude was simply amazing and he never gave the impression that he was giving up. I will honor your memory always and look after your family as though they were mine because I know you would do the same for me. With you looking over us from above till we meet again, I know that everything will be all right, like you always said EGBOK Everything is Going to Be OK…gonna miss you my friend, Jason.
