Obituary

Joan Patricia Caulfield was born on April 27, 1950; she was raised in Rahway, New Jersey by her parents Thomas and Elizabeth along with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. She attended St Mary’s grammar school and Rahway High School. She graduated from Union County Tech in 1974 and began her career as a Registered Dental Hygienist. She practiced in New Jersey and California and worked with many well-known dentists. Joan retired from practicing dental hygiene in 2014 after 40 years; she took a strong interest in her patient’s and great pride in her profession.

Joan enjoyed living in the Balboa/Newport area, taking sailing lessons and joining the yacht club. Joan was a strong passionate and gifted woman. She enjoyed her large family and didn’t miss a chance to celebrate with them. Joan was a beloved sister and aunt. We loved her and will miss that Irish wit.

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hands

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday March 18th at 10:00 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church Newport Beach, CA.

  1. Dear Joan, There are so many happy memories I have of you and the family having fun, especially down the shore. I remember you riding up and down the lagoon on Harold’s jet ski. It was such a nice day.

We will all miss you. Give Harold a hug for me. May you rest in peace. I love you! Marge

Growing up across the street from Aunt Joan and babysitting sometimes for my siblings and I, there are many fond memories. She was such a sport when the 4 of us would play hide and seek and not let her find us for practically the whole night. And she used to loved to go trick or treating at Halloween with us – and she dressed up too! I will remember her as a fun loving person filled with a spirit for life! May you fly on eagles wings and Gods love embrace you. Now you and my Dad can have all the long conversations you want!
With love and sympathy to the whole family,
    Mary Brennan

I had the opportunity to work with Joan or “Jersey Joan” for four years in our office in Costa Mesa. Joan was an excellent hygienist and brought a lot of humor to our office. She will be truly missed.
