I have fond memories of Aunt Jessie when she came to Montana to visit. My favorite memory is of her teaching my daughter, Quincy, (who was then about 7 or 8 years old) how to play Cat’s in the Cradle, which is a game using a loop of string that Aunt Jessie played when she was a little girl. It is hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago. Aunt Jessie had such a wonderful personality and she was so fun and easy to be around. I loved to see her when she was here!
Thinking of you,
Gail Keil Carter (Barbara June’s daughter)

After Jessie retired she came to Montana almost every summer and we had some really good times. She always stayed a couple of days with each of her four siblings and the conversation was non-stop, making up for all the time she was away. She always had more stamina than I and after a busy day she could carry on a conversation until I fell asleep. Every year she would remark that she hoped there would be a thunderstorm while she was here. One summer she and I took a little trip to Paradise Valley and one night while we were in Bozeman we had an epic thunderstorm some of the worst lightening and thunder I have ever seen. She was thrilled and enjoyed every minute of it, just as she lived her life with optimism and joy. We had a very close relationship and I will miss her.

(Please don’t let Phil read this! He might get the wrong idea) I’m sorry to say that I never had the pleasure of meeting Jessie in person. Yet her son is ‘my partner in crime on the golf course…nearly 3 times a week for the last 15 years. We have so much fun (despite our golf). It has always impressed me how much Phil spoke of his Mother with continued love and respect…and the attention he proudly gave her before and during her decline. It’s been clear to me for years that his strength of character and (most of the time) being such a good person…was grounded in his upbringing, proper guidance and role modeling his Mother provided.. Thank you Jessie, for creating and sharing your son with the rest of us. Rest in peace. (and please, continue to keep an eye on Phil from above. He’ll still need lots of your help.) Respectfully, Doug (and Deanie) Barr
