Obituary

James (“Jimmy”) Nickerson passed away May 4, 2018 with his wife by his side.  He was born September 18, 1949 in Pennsylvania.  At the age of 7 his family moved to San Fernando, California.  In his new neighborhood he met many rodeo riders and Hollywood stuntmen.  Jimmy began riding horses, perfecting his rodeo skills.  He also began boxing as an amateur light weight with much success.  These interests lead him to what would become his lifetime career, a Hollywood stuntman.  His first work as a stuntman was in 1968, and his career continued for decades with notable work in the Rocky films, Raging Bull and Gladiator.  Jimmy was inducted into the Hollywood Stuntmen’s Hall of Fame in 1985 and is an Honorary Member of Stunts Unlimited.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Angie Nickerson.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years Deborah, as well as his daughters Kimberly Reddick and Natalie Nickerson and one grandson.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17th at 1:00 pm at Ascension Cemetery, Lake Forest, CA.  A reception will take place immediately following the service.

  1. May memories bring you peace and comfort in this difficult time. With much sympathy John and Patty McCarthy

  2. My husband and I were so sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing. We work out at SC Gym and my husband does Rock Steady Boxing at All American Gym in Costa Mesa for his Parkinson’s. . I got into boxing myself (speed bag) at SC Gym. I wasn’t intimidated because Jimmy was always so friendly to everyone. So we can’t even imagine your loss.

    With sympathy…

  3. Hi and my condolences to his wife ,kids, and grandchild.
I met Jimmy at the 24 hour fitness san clemente,
We briefly got to know each other. We shared conversations, what I know about him is he was proud of his work it was his passion. Eager to encourage and lived his wife very much. I felt his presence today looked him up and found this website. He’s free from the cancer that took him over. He was a fighter till the end! I will miss his smile and presence

  4. Hi, my name is Janice Ott-Kruse. My mother, who is Jimmie’s 1st cousin, is Mary Grace Petraglia-Ott.
My mother’s father, Joseph was Jimmie’s mother, Angie’s brother.
Both my mother and I live in Moreno Valley, CA.
Early this year, I was working on the Petraglia family tree, specificcally looking for Jimmie.
Since I knew that Jimmie was a stuntman/stunt coordinator, I began my search by looking online for him and his stuntwork.
Somehow, yesterday, I came across articles about his death earlier this year. I would like to offer my belated condolences.
Would Jimmie’s wife and daughtera be interested in meeting with me in an effort for me to obtain info. on Jimmies life, marriage, kids, grandson, family, parent’s and his career. My phone # is 951-378-0978 and my email is strfshteacher@aol.com
