Obituary
Guillermina (Germaine) Magallanes Zaldivar passed away peacefully on June 21, 2017, in Mission Viejo, California. Guillermina was 80 years old.
Born December 1, 1936, in Narayit, Mexico, she immigrated to the United States in 1949. She lived in and raised her family in Irvine, California. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jose, Ignacio and Antonio, and is survived by her sister, Amanda. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, the matriarch of a large extended family, she is survived by her husband, Gabino Zaldivar, and three sons, Gilbert (and Colleen), Victor (and Donna) and Michael (and Jaqueline). She was pre-deceased by one son, Ruben. Guillermina is also survived by 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In 1958, at the young age of 20, Guillermina married Gabino and the couple were married 59 years. A wonderful cook (Mexican food her specialty) she was never more happy than when her house was full of loved ones. Christmas Eve was a family favorite, filled with laughter, traditional tamale assembling, biscocho eating and an occasional family round of tequila shots.
Visitation, Vigil and Rosary will be held at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral mass will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Irvine, CA, beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, July 1, 2017, followed by internment at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach, CA. Reception to follow.

“Germaine” and I where co-workers and friends at the City of Irvine. I came to treasure her as a person I could confide in and trust. I loved checking in with her about the latest family news, in particular about the grandchildren who’s pictures were displayed on her cubicle wall. She was also an important source of guidance when she became a member of the employees association committee. Then, a few years before retirement we became part of a retirement planning group and met once a month on our lunch hour to review and study an array of laws and issues that would effect our futures. We all brought different strengths to the group and contributed important information. Germaine, as usual, was a strong no-nonsense member, who’s contributions were always solid and reliable.
I am honored to have known Germaine and send my deep condolences to her family.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the entire family. I have such fond memories of your Mom/Wife/Grandma/Great Grandma. Our families spent time together when we were young kids. I remember the house in Irvine, two stories if I remember correctly; and the brothers always running around getting into mischief. Your Mom was always so loving and full of life and that is what I remember most about her. May your loving memories comfort you and yours at this time.
