Letty, Kay, Bernadette,Stephen and all Gemma’s family,
Gemma was a light that guided so many to help and caring environments. Her compassion for others was demonstrated often with her friends and those with whom she worked. I feel honored to have been her friend and will never forget her wry sense of humor and her kindness.I hope your good memories of Gemma will give you comfort as time passes.
    Love to you all.
    Mary Davey

Gemma was the best of friends. She was an advocate for everybody especially her family and friends. Even when she was very ill herself she was concerned for others.
I visited with Gemma when I was in LA in March. Now I realise that it vas very fortuitous that I made that journey and was able to see both Alan and Gemma before they died. I’m very glad that I did.
I have a collection of letters that Gemma sent to me beginning from about forty years ago. This was a time prior to email and cheap international phone calls. I look forward to re-reading these and sharing them with others.
Her loss has left a dent in my heart. I will always miss her.
My love to Stephen, Letty and Kay, and to the rest of the family.

  3. Gemma was my dear friend and mentor for over forty years. She was kind, caring, wise and had a great sense of humor. I was fortunate enough to spend the last week of her life with her fulfilling her wishes on her “bucket” list. Gemma, Kay, Bev and I had the time of our lives. I will miss our almost daily phone calls – she always told me “one day at a time”.B

  4. Gemma was my mentor and friend for the years we worked together and beyond; always so thoughtful and kind.
She would have endless resources and a trove of information to provide about any and all issues that would arise. Gemma gave great advice and went the extra mile to help me in any way that she could. The definition of Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Extraordinaire should include a photo of Gemma Heffernan, I will always remember her spot on wit, humor and genuine friendship.

  5. Diane Howard says:

Gemma and my mother Nina were best friends for 30 years until my mother’s death. I treasured Gemma over those years and am so sad for her death and Alan’s. I have been involved with a charity organization that helps seniors because Gemma asked me to help over 20 years ago. She was dynamic and caring.
