Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Claudia Ann Byington, age 57, loving wife, mother, grandmother and valued friend.

She left us on 01-01-2006 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer and related bone and brain cancers. The cancer was first diagnosed in 1991. There was a period of remission but the cancer returned in 2001 as bone cancer and later spread to the brain.

Claudia was born in Torrance, California on October 5th, 1948 and raised on the Westside in Long Beach, California. She attended Poly High School graduating in 1966. She was an only child of Frank and Hazel Hocking. Her Mother, Hazel Opal Hocking, passed away in 1991 and her Father, Frank Edwin Hocking, followed six months later in 1992.

Claudia is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Byington; daughter, Erin Rachell Chaulsett, and granddaughters, Jessica and Carlie Chaulsett-Utley.

Claudia’s first job would end up being her last job. She took a claims job with the Auto Club right out of high school in 1966. The Auto Club of Southern California would be her only employer for almost 40 years. Claudia made many special friends during her Auto Club career. No one makes it 40 years in any career without many special friends and helpful co-workers. Claudia always acknowledged her friends and those who helped her along the way. She always put family and friends above everything and enjoyed many close personal relationships throughout her life.

She was a caring and loving person to her family and friends and will be missed by all. Her Oncologist often referred to her as his ?amazing miracle patient? to all of us who loved her, she was our ?amazing miracle person?

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2006 ~ 10:00 A.M. at O’Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA

  1. I am so sorry to hear about Claudia’s passing. She was a warm and wonderful person and a great supporter of breast cancer awareness. She will be missed by all who knew her. Another angel to look over us all.

  2. Claudia, I miss you already. Although I will never share good times with you again in this life, I can always bring back my many memories I have of you. The first time I actually met you was at your house when you and Bob had a party after one of our Auto Club volleyball tournaments. I was a little in awe of you then, as you had recently transferred from Cerritos to Costa Mesa to be their “Senior Claims Rep” I was just a claims rep. When I was on the “Relief team” I came over to your office occasionally to help out. You were always respected and well liked. Then the years passed by and you were working for Doug in the Subrogation Dept. You were always a favorite of his. When he left the dept. and I transferred in, I developed a relationship with you that will never be duplicated. You were my hero. You had class. You were the expert on the investigation of Fire Losses. You prepared every arbitration with dignity. When an angry insured called, you never took it personally, never snapped back at them. Instead, you helped them with extreme profesionalism. You dressed and acted like a first class lady. You loved your shoes! What did I love most about you? You were so fun! So full of spirit. I come from a family of 10 children. You were the one I could talk to about my family and you were truly interested! Likewise, I loved to hear about Bob, Erin, Jessica as a baby and as she grew into a beautiful young lady and of course I remember when Carlie was born and now she’s a delightful young girl. I loved to hear about your in-laws on all sides. I enjoyed our water aerobics, our trips to arbitratiaon together, our wonderful cruise with the “girls”, our dinner out with Doug and Bob. I could go on and on. What fun we had! You became such a dear friend. Doug and I miss you already but we are grateful to have enjoyed you as part of our lives for so many years. May God bless Bob and the children with many happy memories.

    Bob and Family:

Claudia was the most thoughtful person I have encountered in all my years with the Automobile Club. But her most outstanding feature was her upbeat attitude, even through all of her cancer treatments.
I know she will be missed greatly and I can’t even begin to describe how much I will miss her too.

Gods’ Peace and Blessings on you and your family.

  4. One of the best people in the world. Always with a smile, always giving of herself to others. We will miss her so very much.

Bob, our prayers are with you always. I know how Claudia fought in the beginning of her illness and I am sure that she was fighting just as hard at the end. Just know that she is now at peace and without pain. Sincere Sympathy comes to YOU and your family. God’s Blessings are speeding your way.
Take care of yourself and lean on your friends. I found they really do help.
    Jenon
