Barbara Ann Wilkins-Lindsey, 54 was born June 20, 1962 in Farrell County, Mississippi to the late John Taylor and Fannie Mae Wilkins. She was the youngest of three children, James Earl Wilkins and Debora Jean Wilkins (Pentecost).
Barbara confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Greater Hope Baptist Church where she grew up in Santa Barbara, California.
In her youth, Barbara loved to travel. She belonged to a Blue Ribbon acappella Choral called Channalaire Chorus. They competed and traveled across the United States (Houston, Texas; Miami, Florida; New York, New York); England (Stratford-upon-Avon); Wales and Italy; Rome. They competed in New York, where they sang in Carnegie Hall! She later took a Biblical excursion to Israel, where she felt the Bible came alive.
She graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1984 as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelors in Nursing and a Public Health Certificate. Barbara went on to work as a Medical Administrator for over 30 years, and worked at Kaiser Permanente for the last 17 years. She received numerous accolades for Outstanding Patient Care.
On March 8, 1997, Barbara united in holy matrimony to Melvin Carnell Lindsey. To this union, one child was born, Sarah Vaughan Lindsey. They resided in Orange County, California for over 20 years. Barbara was a devoted wife for 20 years and a loving mother. She provided love and dedication to all her family members and friends.
Barbara Ann Wilkins-Lindsey passed this life April 1, 2017 in Orange County, after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, John Taylor and her mother, Fannie Mae Wilkins.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: her husband, Melvin Carnell Lindsey; daughter Sarah Vaughan Lindsey of Orange County; two step-children, August Kareem and Shardae Hope Lindsey of Tennessee; her brother James Earl Wilkins of Oregon; her sister Debora Jean Pentecost (Thomas), and her niece Colleen Taylor Pentecost all of Santa Barbara, CA; her uncle Reverend Walter and aunt Dorothy Jenkins of Mississippi and a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends.
The Lindsey Family and friends are proud to call her Wife, Mom, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend.
Barbara has left quite a legacy and her infinite love and efforts will never be forgotten. She made an indelible mark in all of our lives, without question. God has greeted Barbara at Heaven’s gates by saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

Where do I even start? I got to meet Barb back in 2005 when I was part of the staff hired when KP SNC opened and Man was I in for a treat. I have to admit I was at first intimidated by her after all she was the boss but that quickly changed. For 7 years I had the pleasure of working and getting to know the amazing and fabulous human being I have met to date. Poised. Elegant. Professional. Motherly. Friendly. Funny. Smart. are just some of the words that come to mind that describe Barb. Thank you for all your countless advice and guidance throughout the years. Especially for your friendship. Barbara, one of the strongest Ladies I have had the privilege of meeting, with me living in Mobile,Alabama I didn’t get to visit very often, I met Barbara over twenty years ago, first by via phone and then I was present at the wedding of my friend Melvin and Barbara, I have had the humble experience of praying with her and the inspiring thoughts that she said to me, she over came life challenges by inspiring others to be the best that they can be. 2:Timothy 4: 6-8. You will never be forgotten.

Barbara was a true renaissance woman. I had the pleasure and honor of growing up with Barbara and her siblings. They lived across the street and a couple houses away from us. She dove headfirst into life, worked very hard, and had many friends. It was no surprise that she became a nurse and excelled at it. She sang beautifully and traveled extensively with her A Capella group. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. It is truly a tragedy that she has left this world at such a young age. It is with heartfelt sympathy that I say goodbye.
