- Tuesday, February 13, 2024 (7:00-8:15)When the American Psychiatric Association codified Prolonged Grief Disorder in 2022, the response was swift. What does it mean for grief to be “prolonged?” How do we make sense of the apparent attempt to pathologize what faith communities have long recognized as an adjustment process after the death of a love one? And perhaps most importantly, what is our role if grief “after a year” is somehow considered “prolonged?”Dr. Bill Hoy will help us sort out what all this means for bereavement care in a community like ours and perhaps more importantly, will help us clarify what this new diagnostic criteria does—and does not mean.
