Prolonged Grief Disorder and its Impact on Nursing
When the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization codified Prolonged Grief Disorder in 2022, the response was swift. What does it mean for grief to be “prolonged?” How do we make sense of the apparent attempt to pathologize loss and how does that complicate nursing care? And perhaps most importantly, what sense can be made of the attempts being made now by the pharmaceutical industry to create a “grief pill?” In this fast-paced workshop, Dr. Bill Hoy will help us sort out what nurses most need to know about the universal experience of loss and how it might sometimes go awry.
