Obituary

Robert ?Bob? Zaragoza Fernandez, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Laguna Hills, California. Bob was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to the United States with his family in 1969. He was a 1973 graduate of Dover High School in Dover, Delaware and earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1980. Most recently, he was a Senior Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace Electronic System Division.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred de Guzman, daughter Merissa, 10 years old, and his sons Ryan, 9 and Jourden, 18. He is also survived by his parents, Pete and Nelly Fernandez, of Dover, Delaware, brothers, Edgar of Salisbury, Maryland and Rick of Nice, France and sister Vicky Yaholkovsky of Rocklin, California.

Bob was an avid music fan – in particular jazz – and most specially enjoyed playing the piano. He loved everything about food: from cooking, to indulging in the pleasures of the table, and, to rhapsodizing about it. A travel enthusiast, Bob collected arts and crafts from around the globe, and had just recently returned from a 3-week holiday with his family in France and Italy.

Bob was a loving father, a devoted husband, a loyal, committed and caring brother and uncle, and a wonderful son. He will be missed greatly by those whom he has touched.

My deepest sympathies to you, Mildred, and your loved ones. I pray that God bring you through this tough time.

  2. Our sincere condolences to the Fernandez family. We are so saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Bob. Though we may not know him personally, we remember him as a loving, dedicated father and husband. May he find peace in the comfort of the Lord as he continuously watch over his family.

  3. I met Bob days before he married my cousin, Mildred. That was 13 years ago, I believe. My wife was pregnant w/ our first child. He was a bit shy towards me, naturally. But I could tell a very good man when I see one. I remember being so happy for Mildred. Then I started reminiscing some of the quality times I’d spend w/ Mildred & her friends back in High School. And to finally marry a gentleman like Bob. I was glad that I was here to see this beautiful couple get married. I got to know Bob a little better when he visited here in Illinois for my Mom’s 80th B,day. We talked quite a bit about Jazz music. He listened while I complained of my busy schedules in music. I remember thinking, He’s not that shy after all. We finally had something to talk about. I was looking forward to renewing acquaintances w/ him. But now I’ll just have to settle w/ some nice memories of him. Our deepest condolensces to both families & friends. We’ll keep you in our prayers. God Bless You !

  4. Dearest Mildred and family,

We are so sad to hear of Bob’s passing away. May you find strength and comfort to help you in this time of sorrow. We want you to know that we are thinking of you and the children.

  5. Dear Mildred, Merissa, Ryan, Jourden, Pete & Nelly,

The news that Bob passed away makes me sad. It is hard to understand why our Lord decided to take such a good man, so soon. Amoung the many things that I will remember about Bob, was his smile and his laughter, which he did often! May God provide you the strength to get through this difficult time.
