Obituary

Richard Mao Chou Hong

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Mao Chou Hong on July 24, 2020 at the age of 57.  He fought a courageous two-year battle with leukemia and is now at peace.

Richard was born in Tainan, Taiwan to Su-Chu Lin and Ching-Shiun Hong(deceased). He attended St. Ignatius High School in Taipei, Taiwan.  In 1986, after two years of mandatory military service in Taiwan, he moved overseas to Ontario, Canada to continue his university education.  He attended the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, graduating in 1992 with an Associate’s degree in Information Systems.  Richard moved to California in Feb. 1997 to work for Advantech USA selling computer hardware.  His positive outlook, integrity, engaging personality, perseverance and competitive spirit made him a natural salesman and he excelled at Advantech, becoming one of the top earners in the Embedded Computing Group.

Richard was a dedicated, honest, hard-working professional and a devoted family man. He enjoyed being active, whether biking, practicing Hapki Do martial arts, golfing, or playing soccer and baseball with his sons.   A fierce competitor, he loved to “clean up the table” while playing pool or poker with his friends and colleagues. Richard was a stylish dresser and enjoyed architecture, art, music and travel.

Richard leaves behind his loving wife, Julia Radostits, and two beloved sons, Sebastian and Justin; his mother; and sister, Li-Chen Hong (Sammy) and a large Radostits clan in Canada. Richard will be sorely missed by his family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Be the Match, The Leukemia Lymphoma Society or City of Hope.  A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Special thanks to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at City of Hope and UCI Medical Center for their wonderful care, especially Dr. David Snyder.

    Richard, I’m Jessica from AAC.
You joined Advantech in the United States in 1997. I left Advantech and returned to Taiwan at the end of 1997. Although we have never really worked together, I will always remember you and Julia in my heart.
After hearing the news of your passing away, I sighed at the shortness of life, and wished the great and compassionate Buddha even more! Entreat the Buddha to lead you to a pure and free Buddha kingdom, so that you will be free from all sufferings, but enjoy all happiness; let you see the Buddha in bloom and see and hear the Buddha.
Richard, you have to let go of all conditions and return with peace of mind; always follow Amitabha, I hope you will be led by the Buddha,
We all turn our endless grief into the name of the Buddhist scriptures, and turn our infinite memories into blessings. In this way, pray for the great Buddha to mourn and receive.
