Obituary

Merridy was born in the Philipines and attended a private Catholic Elementary, Secondary and College. She graduated with a BA in Mass Communications and worked as a reporter in the Philipines and once was blind folded and taken to a rebel camp to get an exclusive interview. She migrated to the U.S. on a travel visa and worked for Freedom Village originally in food service and then activities. She met her husband Frank at Tortilla Flats Restaurant on a blind date and a year later were engaged at the very same restaurant during the fourth of July fireworks extravaganza. The couple married in Honolulu, Hawaii at the rooftop garden of the Moana Surfrider Hotel and honeymooned in Hana Ranch, Maui. Merridy loved the theater, arts and travel and enjoyed making photo albums and scrap books of her many travels and adventures.

After several years of building a nest egg and conquering the travel bug, Merridy and Frank decided it was time to start a family. For several days Merridy complained to her husband about not feeling well in the mornings. The afternoon of this second day Frank took her to a local bookstore and purchased, ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting.’ and she said, ‘Do you think………? Allison was a blessing in our lives and Merridy glowed everyday for many years. We carried on the tradition of travel, theater and the arts with Allison. Merridy was a wonderful mother, consummate professional at work and devoted wife. She fought a difficult battle with cancer. However, with her strong faith she knew she would be in a better place, free from suffering and pain. Many of us know how lucky we were to have known her, albeit not nearly long enough. Merridy was dearly loved by many will be deeply missed by all, but always remembered.

  1. Frank,
I never met you, but I am deeply sorry. I am very good friends of the Belo Family I consider Hector & Glenda my aunt/uncle, & Rob & Joyce my cousins. Merridy & I met at the preschool your daughter used to attend in Lake Forest – next thing we know, we’re at the Belo’s house for one of their parties. Small world. I also have a 10 year old daughter. A week ago, I lost my brother-in-law. I know pain…& I can only imagine what you as a parent & your daughter are going through. I don’t think I can handle another funeral at this time, but I will pray for you. My prayers go to you and your lovely daughter. If you need anything driver, groceries, babysitting, or just to talk, please contact me. God bless.

  2. Dear Frank and Allison,

My husband, Robert, and I send our warmest sympathy. Merridy and I were classmates from elementary until high school. We were really good friends. Let me share with you the message I made for merridy read during the mass offered last feb 1… “merridy was not just a classmate but a very dear friend to us. We were privileged to hace enjoyed merridy’s thoughtfulness, generosity & kindness. Despite being away from us, she still managed to make us feel that she is there for us. And nothing will ever change. She will always be in our hearts.”

    God Bless…

  3. My condolences to the Coyle and Enrique Families. I’ve known Dee when we were still in high school. She was a wonderful person. I’m sure she’s with the Almighty now. God bless her soul.

  4. Dear Frank, Allison, and the Enrique family,

My deepest condolences to you all! Dee was a close friend to me throughout high school and college. I will never forget what a wonderful person she was. The little things she did that made a big difference; twisting my hair into a french braid for our senior prom when it was too short, sharing her umbrella with me when we walked in the rain to school and back, sending little notes to me in the classroom, that kind of stuff! She will be greatly missed. I am so glad that I went to LA for our mini high school reunion last Oct 2004 and got to see her!

God bless all of you in this time of sadness!

  5. Ate Dee was the best cousin I’ve ever hadand she will always be.We almost grew up together in BISCOM,Binalbagan. We had so much fun together. She was a very loving and caring person, witty and talented. She had the smile that was so contagious you’d always smile back even if you had a bad day. It’s hard to accept knowing that she’s gone, but it’s even harder to see or even imagine her going through so much pain.I know that she’s in good “HANDS” now.Her last words to me were”I will always be your Ate Dee,and you will always be my Lutchie”.She will always be remembered and loved. For the Coyle and Enrique families,I pray that you find peace and comfort in your hearts. We are so lucky to have been loved by such a beautiful person.
