Obituary

Melvin O’Neal Gipson, January 4, 1937 July 8, 2011. Resident of Irvine, California. After battling the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for many years, Melvin passed away at his home in Irvine, California. Melvin was raised in Mexia, Texas. Upon graduation from high school, Melvin joined the USMC.

He was one of five children born to the late Andrew and Elvira Gipson and was the beloved husband of Vonnie M. Gipson for 50 years. Melvin and Vonnie had one daughter, Sonia Delana Gipson. Melvin will be forever remembered by his devoted siblings, Milton Gipson, Inez Smith and Chester Gipson, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Melvin loved to help his neighbors and friends; there was nothing that Melvin could not do or repair.

Melvin touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday, July 13th, 2011, at 11:40am at the Main Chapel on Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

There will be a Memorial Service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 506 E. Sumpter Street, Mexia, TX 76667. The funeral will be held immediately afterwards at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Ply, Dallas, TX 75211.

    I did know Mr. Gipson but, I do know he has a nice daughter and son-in-law Delana and Harry. I am just sorry I did not have the pleasure of meeting such a wonderful person. Delana will keep his spirit alive.
