Obituary

Matthew Ryan Simmons was born on February 7, 1980 in Fullerton, California to his biological parents Hope Cornejo and Kevin Rainey but adopted by John and Cindi Simmons. Matthew went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2008 in Savannah, Georgia at the age of 28. Matthew grew up in Mission Viejo, California with his parents and brothers and sisters Nathan, Alyssa, Bethany and Taylor. He grew up loving trains, match box cars, cats, challenging puzzles, playing cards and board games. He loved growing up going camping with his family during the summer in Lake Tahoe. He would not give anything to sit around camp fires with his family, go hiking, watch the stars, and swim in the lake. Matthew always kept everything very organized. He graduated from Mission Viejo Highschool in 1999 and shortly after joined the Air Force. He was in the Air Force for seven years and during that time was deployed to South Korea for a year in 2004. Matthew met and married his wife Michelle Simmons of seven years in 2001 and than started a beautiful family. He was a wonderful father to Ariana, Shakira, Cayson, Elijah, and Jeremiah. Matt loved being with his kids and would do anything for them. His kids were his world. Matthew left the Air Force to join the Army in June 2006 and was stationed at Fort Stewart Army base in Savannah, Georgia with his family. He was than deployed to Afghanistan in November 2006 for fifteen months. While over seas he was a chaplain assistant to Chaplain Greg Mc Vey who Matt became good friends and battle buddies with. They stuck together and learned alot from each other. Matthew returned to Fort Stewart February 2008. He loved being with his wife and kids. Matthew is remembered as a loving dad, a great friend, and a hero to many. His favorite carton was Spongebob Squarepants. He loved watching a good movie and got a kick out of inviting everyone to his gun show. Matthew was extremely proud to serve his country. He loved to travel and see new places and learn about new things. He loved the San Diego Chargers. They were his team. He loved watching and following the Chargers wins/losses. Matthew will be missed by so many people. He had touched so many lives in his 28 years here on earth. We love you Matthew Ryan Simmons.

Matt, Its so sad to me that we just finally got back in touch after all these years and then it ended so quickly. Im so sad that you wont be going to our high school reunion in June, I knew you were totally jazzed about coming and I was really looking forward to seeing you. From what I gathered in just the few months that I got to spend reconnecting with you via myspace and such that your an amazing father and a great friend, much like how you were when we were in school together. Its so strange to think back and remember all the fun times we had at church, school dances, football games, grad night, lunch in the quad in the grass area, or just chillin at taco bell. We even went to taco bell after the funeral just for old times sake, it was a nice walk down memory lane.

Matt you will always be in my heart and I look forward to seeing you again in heaven.

  3. Words cannot describe nor help the transition God’s children must go through when one of us crosses over into Heaven’s Gates…I only know from what the bible has taught me – and that is, Matthew, you are living eternity with our Father.

God send many blessings of comfort and healing down here on earth to his family and friends.

    Regards,
    Teresa/Mrs. P.
