Obituary

Margot DePatie passed away at the age of 78 on January 12, 2021 in Mission Viejo, CA after a 9-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and grew up in Sarasota, FL. In 1964, Margot moved to San Diego where she met her husband, Gene. They spent all the ensuing years in California, including the past 31 years in Coto de Caza.

Margot was a loving person who cared about her family, friends and animals. Mother to Beth and Paul, she championed their efforts as they grew to be responsible adults with successful careers of their own. She took great pride in their accomplishments.

She cared for innumerable cats and dogs during her life and always showed them affection and devotion. Later in life, she turned  to horses and became a developed Dressage rider who realized a childhood dream. Once committed to an endeavor, Margot threw herself into it with full dedication and effort.

Married to her husband Gene for over 56 years, she shared a love that was complete and encompassing. Her support of family and friends was both dedicated and unwavering.

Margot leaves a grieving family including husband, Gene, daughter, Beth, son Paul, his wife Staci and their two sons, Alexander and Nicholas. She will be remembered as a wonderful person who loved them all completely.

A private memorial service will be held Sunday February 7 at 10AM and will be available to stream online at the following link: https://admin.oneroomstreaming.com/email/view/5d2f2e89f1

  2. What we will miss most of all is Margot”s beautiful smile. She brightened every room just by being in it! Margot shared so much with us from her beautiful hand painted treasures to the care and loving of her exquisite orchids. We will be forever connected to her in spirit and will keep her close in our hearts always. We love you Depatie Family! John & Alison

  3. Margot was a lively spirit who felt so much delight in the things she loved: her family, her cuddly kitties, her beautiful horses, her orchids, her pottery, and her jewelry. Her eyes twinkled as she shared her heart and her passions. She was a loving and giving friend and she shall be missed.

  4. Bill and I were really struck by the remembrances shared and how they matched our own. So I’ve added a photo to the timeline of Cook’s Corner. Many years ago, Margot and I decided that we’d stick on some fake tattoos and head to our local bar for a moment on the wild side of Orange County. Gene and Bill were good sports and acted their parts too. But either they looked like macho, outlaw hombres or our tattoos weren’t impressive enough cuz nobody asked us to do the Texas Two Step! But so glad to have a willing friend! A very fun memory.
