Obituary

Margaret Lyon Von Der Ahe
February 21, 1925 – March 29, 2024

Born to Winifred McEvoy and Richard Lyon on February 21, 1925, Peggy, Mom, Grandma, and G.G. (“Great-Grandmother”), as she was known to her friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 29, 2024. Peggy attended Cathedral Chapel Grammar School, Immaculate Heart High School, and Immaculate Heart College. At school, she met life-long friends that stayed in contact with her throughout her senior years. At a friend’s wedding, she met the love of her life, Dr. Clyde V. Von Der Ahe. Peggy and Clyde married in 1951 and remained married until Clyde’s death in 2014. From their marriage came eight children, sixteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. During her marriage, Peggy participated in the PTA and Mothers’ Guilds at her children’s schools. She volunteered for various charities including Mission Doctors and St. Anne’s Family Services. She enjoyed golf and bridge at the Wilshire Country Club. She faced her fear of flying and traveled the world, especially to Hawaii. She loved blue and wore it often. Through all the years of family bedlam, trials, and shenanigans, Peggy demonstrated amazing flexibility and patience. She was the consummate mother and devoted wife.

Peggy was predeceased by Clyde, her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ralph Overend. She leaves behind her children: Kathy (Pat) Whalen, John (Susan) Von Der Ahe, Clyde (Leslie) Von Der Ahe, Jean (Tom) Moore, Judy (John) Menne, Bill (Susan) Von Der Ahe, Peggy (Scott) Young, and Bob Von Der Ahe. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. We will celebrate Peggy’s life on April 19, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newport Beach at 11:00AM.
