Obituary

James Harry Eklund, 67, was born September 15, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away June 28, 2018 at home in Lake Forest, California.

Proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran for almost three years, receiving his Combat Infantry badge, National Defense Service medal and Sharpshooter M14.

James is survived by his wife Sunilla Alice Lewis Eklund; daughter Jessica Eklund; daughter Andrea Phillips and her husband Brad; grandsons Oliver and Obi Phillips; sisters Joan Sandstrom and Judy Tiffner.

His love for construction saw him working in this industry for most of his career.
He loved helping people- family, friends, strangers – whenever he could and always went the extra mile.
Spending time with family and friends was his priority, only rivaled by his passion for most sports, first the Minnesota Twins, then the LA Angels for baseball, along with attending the Ducks hockey games whenever he could.
‘The song has ended but the melody lingers on’
A Celebration of James life will be held at 2:00pm in the Clubhouse at the Eklund’s residential community, 24001 Muirlands Blvd., Lake Forest, CA 92630.

  4. To my dear friend Andrea, Brad, Ollie, Obi, Sunilla, Jess and families, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I wish I could be there, and I am in spirit. I know Andreas strength of character, optimism, generous nature, strength and love as a mother, warmth and unwavering friendship is in part a result of having such a wonderful father (and mother). As such Jim will live on through his daughters and grand children. My thoughts and love will be with you all in particular on the day his life will be celebrated. Love from Lisa Satchwell, Brenda, Brian and Angus. Xoxoxo

  5. Dear Sunilla,
Oh, how our hearts go out to you! So fast once the diagnosis was made. We’re sorry. I love the picture of Jim and his great big smile. And that’s how I want to remember him. I was so glad that we could stop by your place a year ago and spend some time with you. I think of Jim’s gentleness, positive spirit and encouraging heart. What a special man! I pray for you and your daughters each day. May God give you comfort, grace and peace.
    Sending a hug,
    Ruth (and Andy) Anderson
