Obituary

 GAIL ANN PACE

December 22, 1952 – July 10, 2022

Gail passed away on Sunday, July 10 after an 8 year courageous battle with ovarian, peritoneal and metastatic brain cancer.  She is the daughter of William and Patricia Stewart and was born in Spokane, Washington.  She grew up in Cananea Mexico where her father was a mining engineer, attended Saint Benedict’s Catholic High School in Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1975 with High Honors.  She is survived by her husband of 45 years James Pace, daughters Michelle Capelouto and Jennifer Reed, four amazing grand kids – Emerson, London, Parker and Palmer, and her brother William Stewart.  Gail was a person of people and relationships.  She leaves a legacy of kindness and goodness for everyone she touched.  It takes a special person and one with heart and soul to be kind and good to everyone – Gail had the heart and soul of a saint.  She had her faith but never talked much about it, she just lived it.  She never expected anything in return for her good deeds from anyone and always stood in the background not calling attention to herself. She had unconditional faith in humanity; was an excellent gourmet cook; adored her daughters and grandkids; loved the ocean; enjoyed fishing in Mammoth Lakes; but especially enjoyed searching for deer and Happy hours in Mammoth Lakes, and lots of Happy hours with her friends.  She very much enjoyed the simple things like being with her family.  Holidays were a special time for Gail; she always went way out of her way to make goodies for everyone and always made feasts for the family dinner.  She loved and was beloved by all her family and friends and always couldn’t wait to see them thinking about what she could do for them next.  She had the gift to make everyone feel special and was a beacon of light for everyone who knew her.  Our most cherished remembrance of her was how she lived her life.  We will never forget Gail, she was beautiful inside and out, and the precious memories will live on in our hearts for forever.

  1. Mi querida Gail…you will truly be missed! Who could forget your infectious laugh, or the afternoons roller skating on the cement around the huge oak tree in your beautiful yard? Gail, who knew the lyrics to just about EVERY song, would spend lazy summer afternoons listening to the latest 45 record she had just bought. Music was integral to our shared lives in Cananea. The dances at the Country Club, the serenatas at the Plaza, lat night serenatas under our bedroom windows…such wonderful memories! Such joy to know your legacy lives on in your beautiful daughters and grandchildren. You will forever be in our hearts amiga mia.

Jim, Michelle, and Jennifer, the obituary here captures so well what was Gail’s warmth, kindness, and joy in entertaining. Throughout her suffering, when we would talk on the phone, I always marveled at the hope and courage she displayed, but more than that her deep love for Jim and both of you and her pride in each of her daughters. Gail was pure love and joy. May all of our memories of her provide us comfort. You all have so many. Love, Tony

I wish I knew Gail much longer than I did. I met her in 2009 and loved her from the moment I met her. She was so fun, always made me laugh, shared recipes, and family stories. I will never forget the good times we had. Then after her diagnosis she was an inspiration of hope and love and endurance. She loved life and she fought a valiant battle. I already miss her so much. ☹️ Condolences to her family. 💕💕💕

What an amazing person and what an extraordinary life. I feel so lucky to have met her.
A good and generous woman as a wife and as a mother.
Gail was truly a blessing in my life and I will miss her so much.
    My heartfelt condolences 💐
    With love: Ana & Mauricio

  5. We had the great pleasure of meeting the Paces in Diamond Bar with youth sports and Kari played with Jennie on soccer teams. Gail and Jim were both always so nice
to everyone and Gail was a very positive influence on the team and the parents.
Kari preferred to spend time with Jennie at the Pace’s house probably because they
were always so nice and thoughtful in every way. We are sad for Jim and kids and the world is lesser without Gail in it.
