Obituary

EVANGELINE A. VITUG

On April 1, Wednesday, 8:15 pm, Evangeline (Lane) Vitug, loving wife of Manolito (Lito) passed away at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with heart failure.

Lane was born in Manila, Philippines to loving parents Benigno and Josefa Aldana on June 21, 1934, and was one of five children. After she graduated from Holy Ghost College she taught in high school for over ten years. She married Lito on December 17, 1960 and together they raised nine children.

Lane and Lito moved the family to California in November 1979 where they continued to rear their children, and together with their many friends, fostered great devotion to the Lord Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in the spirit of Opus Dei taught by St. Josemaria and Blessed Alvaro del Portillo. She fulfilled God’s will through her responsibilities as wife, mother, grandmother and friend with a lot of affection and great simplicity. She did this without complaining even when faced with adversities such as financial setbacks and illnesses in the family including her own.

Lane is survived by her husband Lito, children Noel, Martin (and Stephanie), Mark (and Ruth), Maritess (and Rick O’Donnell), Montse (and Mike Vroman), Todd Kupka (husband of deceased daughter Michelle), Michael (and Traci), Matthew, and May (and Tom Stoddard), and all the loving 23 grandchildren. Her loving and generous spirit evoked a very tender last end from her greatest love of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Her remains are at the O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills.

The Viewing and Holy Rosary will take place on Wednesday, April 8, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
You will be able to join us via streaming video for the Viewing and Holy Rosary at

In lieu of flowers you may send offerings to the family.

Thank you for being part of our Life!

Mr. Vitug, Noel, Montse and family,
Meeting your wife and mom in the past was always a bright spot, a delight, like a little cloud of love. I am so glad I had those brief encounters. I’ve only ever heard blessed accounts of her kindness and goodness. I wish I could be more like her. I have been praying for you and will continue.
Deepest prayers of condolence, comfort and healing, and mercy upon Lane’s sweet soul.
    In Jesus’ love,
    Frances Peterson

  2. Dear Montse,
My prayers are with you and your family. I remember meeting your mom with a sweet smile. Her calmness radiated her warm heart. May God gives you peace and consolation while your mother is entering the eternal life. Lena will guide your life! ,

May the tears of sadness at the loss of Lane soon turn to tears of joy when considering that the Immaculate Virgin was waiting to bring her through that veil into eternal life with her Son.
Kristi Vi and I will keep her, and all of you, in our daily prayers.
Montse, we keep the funeral Mass photo you sent us of your sister Michele in our little chapel and now we pray for her and Lane each day. May we all be one day joined together in that place where every tear is washed away.

    Jesus we trust in you!

  4. Ken and I will miss our beloved Ate Lane. We will continue praying for the repose of her soul. She was a kind and religious person and we believe she’s now at peace with the Lord. We are sorry we cannot attend the viewing and her Funeral Mass in California. Due to the Coronavirus, no planes here at the Silver Spring Airport are working at this time. Anyway, take care and best regards to all of you! Ken & Tess Vitug Nolan

  5. Dear Tito Lito and to my beloved cousins, nephews and nieces

Tita Lane was a very special aunt to us.

Our hearts go out to you and the family as we keep you in our prayers that God will show his mercy and compassion towards all of you as you go on without her. We love you all and share in your grief … Ken, Cherry and Josh Osborn
