Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Tierney passed away on May 20th, 2019 at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange, CA due to many complications that arose from having Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), along with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Gene was born on November 12, 1932 in Union City, NJ to Gertrude and Hugh Tierney. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Domenica, from Milan, IT, his brother Bob, who lives in New Jersey, his former wife, Yvonne, of Greely, CO and their four children Cherie Martensen, Pueblo, CO, Mark Tierney, Orange, CA, Paul Tierney, Birmingham, AL, and Francine Miller, Kiowa, CO, his grandchildren Shannon Gates, Micah Treloar, Kristopher and Kaitlin Tierney, Holly, Paul and Ben Tierney, and great grandchildren, Kylee and Alann Gates and Brynn Treloar. Gene’s Italian family through marriage to Domenica, consists of her children Pierangela Freddi, Milan, Italy, Anna Tierney, Orange, CA, Francesca Freddi, Milan, Italy, and her grandchildren, Giacomo Balletti, Marta and Laura Manna.

Gene retired after 20 years of service as a Tech Sargant from the United States Air Force in 1976 and after 15 years working as a machinist making x-ray film for Kodak in 1991. He was highly religious in his Catholic faith, loved to travel, spoke fluent Italian, was an excellent musician, leading the military marching band in his younger years, playing the organ for night-clubs and churches while he was in the military, and his grand piano until just recently. He loved classical music and opera, and loved to scuba dive while he was stationed in Hawaii and Europe. With his excellent memory and broad knowledge of all sorts of historical facts, he should have been on a trivia game show. His favorite expression was “Oh-Boy”, when he sat down to his favorite meals; there were many, but especially a good steak.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on June 18th, 2019 at 10:00am, followed by a military burial at the Riverside National VA Cemetery at 2:00pm.

    Rest in peace Uncle Gene

  2. Uncle Gene, forever in our hearts. Never thought that when we spoke a few days before you passed, that it would be our last. I loved how we FaceTimed regularly and dad could talk to you. We knew you two were brothers because you both always say ” ah for crying out loud”…We could translate back & forth so Zia Mina was in the conversation. Loved that you taught me a new word in Italian each week. Thank you for always remembering our birthdays & calling us. This past Feb I got a voicemail from you & Zia and I’ll cherish it & play it so I can hear your voice.
You were so strong, so knowledgeable and funny! Love your contagious laugh. Just wish we had more time & a chance to come visit you!
Dad misses you terribly; his little brother. May you rest in eternal peace & know we love and miss you so very much. Thx for everything; especially caring about us! Til we meet again, Xxoo Ciao for now, Darlene, Ralph, Shannon & Bob xxoo

It was always a joy to see Gene and Mina out walking hand in hand, listening to Gene play the piano through the open window or simply visiting with them. Gene will be dearly missed! My heart goes out to Mina and all of his precious family!???

    A Mina dico:coraggio!
