Obituary

Egon was born on September 2, 1936 in Erfurt Germany. Following his father’s footsteps, he studied as an apprentice baker where he excelled. At the beginning of the communist occupation of Germany, he escaped and arrived in Ottawa Canada in the late 50’s. There he met his lifelong sweetheart and wife Daniela. After the arrival of their only child Robert, they emigrated to the United States and settled in Glendale, Ca. Egon perfected his craft and provided his services to the motion picture industry as well as the public sector. He and his wife ultimately owned two Baskin-Robbins stores and a 20-unit motel. They retired early in Dana Point, CA and subsequently traveled the world, embarking on wonderful adventures together. His favorite destination was Tahiti and Bora Bora. He lived a wonderful life full of love, laughter, humility, and honesty and was one of the most giving individuals we could ever imagine. He had a family spirit that was second to none.

Egon was preceded in death by his brother Peter, his wife Daniela, and his granddaughter Jessica. He is survived by his son Robert, daughter-in-law Christie, grandchildren Garrett, Lindsey, and Ashley, great grandchildren Bella and Riley. Egon was loved by countless many and has left and enduring legacy that will last a lifetime.

  1. I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Egon because of his close relationship with Robert. We shared meals together on several occasions and invited him to our house for Fourth of July and New Year’s celebrations, not out of obligation, but because we genuinely enjoyed his company. He told fascinating stories of his journey to the U.S. after WW 2, his childhood in Germany, and life in the U.S.

Rest In Peace…you will be missed.

I first met Egon 48 years ago when he and Daniela bought the Baskin-Robbins ice cream store where I was working at part time when I was in High School. Egon and Daniela were extremely friendly and nice,we immediately had a connection because of our experience with Communism, Egon in East Germany, Daniela in Poland, and myself in Cuba where I was born. It was the beginning of a long beautiful friendship with Egon and Daniela, I have looked up to them all my life. Egon and Daniela’s beautiful love story and marriage were an inspiration to me. I admired Egon for his incredible devotion and dedication to Daniela. Egon was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. I will treasure my memories of our friendship and he will be forever in my heart. Dear Egon you are now with your love Daniela and your beautiful granddaughter Jessica. God bless you

  3. When I met Egon I knew that he was the man that made Robert into the person we know and love today. It’s a shame that we lost someone so dear to many people I know. And even though I only knew him for a short time, I know from the bottom of my heart he had a long lasting affect on all of our lives. We all miss you down here, love Jake.
