Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of beloved husband, father, and grandfather/Lolo, Diego “Jon” Antigua Dela Cruz, Jr. at the age of 65 from COVID-19. He fought the virus at home for a week along with his dear wife before being hospitalized on December 28th, 2020, with pneumonia. Family stayed virtually connected with him daily throughout his final days. He tragically succumbed to the virus on January 10th, 2021. May he now rest in eternal peace in Heaven above.

Jon was an outgoing, compassionate, and vibrant soul who will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He had represented the Philippines at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan and was a proud Eagle Scout. He was the life of the party and connected with people everywhere he went. Jon enjoyed capturing life’s precious moments on video and through photography. He embraced his Filipino heritage and also selflessly served those in need, including the homeless community. Jon was active in the Catholic church over the years as a music and eucharistic minister.  He enjoyed traveling, going on road trips, bowling, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family. Jon had a love for cooking for his family and friends. Jon grandfatherly fulfilled his APOstolic duties with fervor and love. He had a great sense of humor, and he never missed his ritual morning senior coffee at McD’s.

Jon sadly leaves behind the love of his life- his “Sweet”heart, Eva, whom he met at the school bus stop at age 16. Four years later, they got married and started a family. He lovingly referred to her as his Moon to his Sun. Jon’s love for life shines on in his cherished children (Jaymie, Jon, and Michelle), Apos/grandchildren (Brian, Carter, Emberlyn, Wesley, and Maximus), and sons-in-law (Anthony and Logan).

“Until we meet again, you will live on forever in my heart.”

  1. Jon, I’m grateful I got to know you and your family over the past 25 years. You always made Maegan and I feel like part of the family. You were always so much fun and so easy to talk to, always took a genuine interest what I’d been up to. I’ll never forget the week we spent together in Hawaii for Jaymie’s wedding, all the FilAm events, family parties, Karaoke, and get togethers through the years. I will miss you dearly. Sending love, prayers and hugs to you and your family.

  2. It’s still very difficult for us to believe Jon is gone. He was so dear to our hearts, enjoying every moment we shared with him and Eva. Jon was very outgoing, loved by many, so easy to warm up to so much so that at their first meeting, he and Durdu started calling each “brother”, like in the true meaning of the word. Durdu felt an immediate affinity with him. Jon was the only one he ever called “brother”. We are fortunate to have enjoyed several visits with Jon and Eva in our home. Whenever I was in Los Angeles, Jon also always arranged get togethers with him, Eva snd some friends at the spur of the moment. He was very generous with his gift of time, and in every way. Never was a dull moment in his company. He was “the life life of the party”, gregarious, and cracking jokes all the time. Tirelessly, he snapped photo after photo during our outings. Those memories are forever preserved through his beautiful photographs. Jon, eternal peace be with you on your journey to join our Creator.
To Eva and family, our deepest sorrow as we mourn the loss of Jon. We offer our sympathy and prayer that God grant you comfort in the loving memories Jon left behind. Eva, our hopes and prayers are for your full recovery and that God grant you the courage to cope during this very difficukt time.

  3. Diego to us, and the ever sweet Eva are very dear friends of the Bahia Family, and we are deeply saddened on his untimely demise. There was no dull moments with Diego and his genuine friendship with my older brother, incidentally his ” ninong” on their civil marriage.
We will never forget Diego, he is treasured in our hearts forever. God’s comfort and embrace to the entire family.
We love you Diego!! Till we meet again.

  4. We are sending our thoughts and prayers. His love for all of his family and friends will always be in everybody’s heart. He is in the loving hands of our Lord. From Adele and Bruce Kaplan
