Dealing with Polarized Families
The experience of anticipatory grief affects each family member somewhat differently. In the process of each person getting his or her “issues” met, however, frequently the dying person actually gets overlooked. In this workshop, we will talk about how to deal with family systems when these potentially polarizing bereavement issues are present. Everyone is dealing with their own grief and it tends to be a very polarizing experience for a family.
Objectives. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to…
- use practical techniques to help family members evaluate the good and the bad in relationships
- describe the specific complications present in grief surrounding ambivalent relationships
- use proven intervention strategies when appropriate
